2009 Summer Fashion Must-Haves for Men

Necessities to Be on Par with the Hottest Trends

Alex P
Well, we've survived the winter. Now, it's onto the spring and summer. It's time to make those clothes from last season hibernate for a while and get prepared for the warmer seasons. Want to look good and stay in style? No problem. This year, we'll see a blend of ethnic influences in the styles of clothing we wear, ranging from Paris to Milan. Here are the top five things men absolutely need to have to stay classy in the summer of 2009:

Sandals
With the warm weather, you don't have to stick with close toed shoes anymore. This year's styles are the epitome of fashion freedom: some designers have introduced the V-neck shirts for men while others are sticking with suits from the 1930's. Either way, it's clear that during the spring and summer, sandals emulate relaxation and leisure. However, unlike other years, it's important that you let your sandals glow. Don't let them hide under your feet in their dark colors. Don't hunt for anything fluorescent and blindingly bright, but a noticeable green or light blue are friendly colors that you should look for in your sandals. No double-strap sandals or active, sporting sandals, either. Rather, your best bet is with light colored sandals with only one strap, which you can find here.

Plaid Shorts
Forget the cargo shorts or athletic shorts. What's in style now are plaid shorts. Simple, intricately designed, and popular, these shorts are a necessity for the upcoming warm weather of 2009. While having a classy and preppy appearance, these shorts are also extremely comfortable, making them a great choice for the leisure style of the summer. A Mint Green Tie
You want a light green or mint green tie, definitely. The summer of 2009's fashion trends are filled with bright and chic colors that are subtle yet draw attention. While blue's and red's demand too much attention, the mint green tie uniquely blends with the right outfits. White suits and dark suits are both easily complimented by this tie. If you don't have one already, you'll definitely need one of these stunning ties for this summer. You can drop by your local department store or mall, where they'll most likely have some of these in stock. If that doesn't work out, you can purchase a mint green tie online here for only $9.95.

A New Suit
The style of suits which has defined this millennium has evolved: now, we're into suits that are more relaxed. No longer are the suits that are tightly wrapped around your body popular, as they have been for the past few years. Rather, we're entering a period in suits where it's important that it is comfortably fit and relaxed. In addition, the new style of suits aim to combine the classic looks of the 1930s with a strong display of masculinity. So, when purchasing a new suit, make sure you look for broad shoulders too. Despite the return to the 1930s, classic means staying within English traditions, and staying within English traditions means thin-waisted suits. This means, don't get too relaxed but do yourself a favor and buy a suit that's less tight. You can find some of these suits here.

A Brooch
Surprised, eh? Well, it seems that jewelry has left the realm of women and has crossed over into being more popular among men. While we don't have the same variety of jewelry as women, men can compliment their suits by adding masculine brooches like the ones seen here. Adding a brooch to your suit can add a bit of class to your character, making it a must-have for the summer of 2009. While they're somewhat expensive, they're worth the price and you can check some of them out here.
