2006 Super Bowl Parade in Pittsburgh
After the Steelers won the Super Bowl in 2006, their victory parade drew over 250,000 fans.The cost to the city for providing security and cleaning up afterward ran approximately $45,000. This cost, along with safety concerns, are the primary reason that city officials are not promoting a parade for the 2009 Super Bowl victory despite heavy fan interest in doing so. Despite these concerns, it is expected for the Steelers to coordinate a celebration of some type with the local government based on fan interest and demand.
Likely 2009 Super Bowl Parade Route Information
The likely 2009 Pittsburgh Super Bowl Parade route will likely mimic the 2006 route with a similar crowd of more than 220,000 expected to attend. The 2006 parade route began at Mellon Arena on Centre Avenue and proceeding down Fifth Avenue to Liberty, ending at Liberty and Commonwealth Place near the Point.
