2009 Super Bowl XLIII: Top Commercials

Where to Watch Video of Super Bowl Movie Trailers

Maybe you can blame the sluggish economy for the overall lackluster quality of the 2009 Super Bowl commercials. But if you take a away of few cute moments by Coke Zero, and Doritos, most of the more memorial moments belong to either upcoming Hollywood movies, or promos for TV shows like Heroes.

The Coca-Cola company, which was quasi cute with a commercial featuring insects running off with a 16 oz Coke bottle (By the way, when was the last time you enjoyed coke in a 16 ounce bottle? Last one I had one was in Mexico), scored better with a takeoff on the classic Mean Joe Greene commercial of the late 70's. The commercial featured Pittsburgh Steelers safety Troy Polamalu, a kid with a coke, and those two obnoxious guys from all the Coke Zero commercial was amusing. Doritos, which probably peaked during the 1990's with Super Bowl commercials which featured Ali Landry (Ali Landry Doritos commercial: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=haMghffhJes), put forth a credible effort with their Crystal Ball commercial.

Still, despite those efforts, the new trailers for movies like G.I. Joe (You can catch the "G.I.Joe The Rise of the Cobra" trailer here: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/4408669) and Transformer 2 (You can catch the Transformer 2 trailer here: http://video.yahoo.com/watch/4409363/11824579) will probably generate the most buzz around the water cooler tomorrow morning. Even movie trailers for "Land of the Lost," (http://video.yahoo.com/watch/4409077) and "The Year One," where more amusing than most corporate commercials this year.

Finally, there was the promo for NBC's television show "Heroes," which pitted the actors from the show in a football game against NFL former stars like John Elway, Warren Sapp, and Jerry Rice. The promo itself was more memorable then most of the fare offered by Madison Avenue this year.

Maybe next year, the economy will be a little bit better. Maybe Madison Avenue will receive a stimulus package big enough to get corporate America back into the game on Super Bowl Sunday; let us hope so. At least the NFL got the game right this year.
