The 2009 SXSW music lineup is scheduled to feature a little bit of everything for everyone. There are multiple venues loaded with a plethora of musical talent each of the five days of the music festival. Musical genres such as pop, rock, alternative, alternative country, hip-hop, Latin blues, gospel, R&B, electronic-dance, avant/experimental, world, urban roots, metal and punk will all be present. Additionally, singer-songwriters, comedians, and DJs will be performing at the various venues.
All listings are subject to change, so it is best to consult the official SXSW schedule prior to making plans.
The following is a brief rundown of some of the scheduled highlights:
Warren Hood is a member of the Waybacks and the son of Champ Hood. This alternative country singer and musician will be making his SXSW appearance at Antone's (213 West 5th Street) on Wednesday, March 18 at 8 p.m. All ages are welcome at Antone's. An audio clip of Warren Hood performing "Bayou Girl" is available on his website.
Comedian Margaret Cho is working on a comedic song album and will be performing some of it at SXSW. Ms Cho will be performing at The Velveeta Room (ages 18+) at 8 p.m. on Friday, March 20. The Velveeta Room is located at 521 East 6th Street. Then, at 9:05 p.m. she will be performing over at Esther's Follies, located at 525 East 6th Street. Her schedule of performances and party-hosting is available directly from the SXSW website, and may be added to your own custom SXSW calendar.
Friday, March 20 at 10 p.m., metal band Ironweed will be making a SXSW appearance at Room 710. Room 710 is located at 710 Red River Street. You must be 21 or older to enter. The SXSW site has an artist section that features a downloadable track from Ironweed titled, "This Faithless Will." More information about Ironweed, including audio clips of some of their music, may be found at the sonicbids website.
Urban/R&B artist Shayna Steele will be performing Saturday, March 21, at 11 p.m. at Aces Lounge (222 East 6th Street). You must be 21 or older to get into the Aces Lounge. A download of Steele's "What Are We Giving" is available at the SXSW artist section.
