2009 Top 10 New Year's Songs

Albert Chang
There's nothing like music to bring in the new year. With celebrations planned well ahead, one must always have the right songs to keep things stable. With so many people anticipating 2009, a few extra lists will make you feel as jolly as old Saint Nicolas himself! Here is a list of the top 10 songs for 2009 that will be sure to keep Santa Claus, his reindeer, and everyone else happy as well!

10. Heaven Is A Disco, by Patti Lupone. A great rhythm choice that the elves themselves can't stop playing. They must have checked their lists twice.

9. Flamenco Sketches, by Miles Davis. Before or after the clock strikes midnight, a light glaze of jazz will be sure to smooth out the entire evening. Brews, and blue, and sketches, oh my!

8. Record Year, by The Decemberists. Fitting to cite a band that, fortunately, knows when Christmas is. Good thing New Year's Day is right between December 31st and January 1st!

7. Berlin, by Alaska In Winter. This little ditty keeps things warm and toasty throughout the festivities. Perfect in light of those dreaming to spend their winters in Alaska.

6. Dona Nobis Pacem (Give Us The Peace), by Yo Yo Ma. This piece by cellist Yo Yo Ma brings feelings of joy and peace to everyone for New Year's Day.

5. Arrival, by Sarah Brightman. Her album, A Winter Symphony, was just released this November 4th on Amazon.com.

4. January, by Broadway Project. Broadway Project's album, Compassion, will leave you enthralled and enticed, ready to ring in the New Year.

3. I Wish I Had A Wooden Heart, by David Holmes. An oldie but goodie, when the streets are crowded and there's 5 minutes left 'til midnight, this song is a great complement to the festive holidays.

2. The Best Day, by Taylor Swift. Another album just released on November 11, 2008. This might give the New Year's Eve fireworks a run for their money!

1. A New Time, by Unn. This is off of their new unreleased album, Exit, due out on December 30th, 2008.

Enough with the negative comments-- No one really needs that stuff, particularly during the holidays. Here's an idea: how about sharing some other songs or playlist ideas that you feel would work even better.

    thank.you.
