Get Moving with These Top 2009 Alternative Songs

No matter what your mood, these top 2009 alternative songs will get you up and moving. Some of these top alternative songs are from new comers and others from alternative favorites like Pearl Jam, but either way each has made a spot on my playlist. Each song is full of emotion and a driving beat that makes it nearly impossible to keep your head from nodding. This list of top 10 alternative songs for 2009 is in no particular order, as each is a favorite on any given day.

1. Uprising by The Muse

It's impossible to not sing along to this top alternative song. This song has made its debut in several sports arenas with victory-inspired lyrics. One of many songs featured on their 2009 album entitled, The Resistance, this song is a great song to get you pumped up before a big game or workout to.

2. Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant

As a huge fan of the Kings of Leon, this band has followed their Southern rock lead with clear inspiration rooted from blues and pop rock. This song from their debut album invites listeners to get up and groove with powerful rhythms and soulful vocals. A fun song that is a must have on any music lover's playlist.

3. New Fang by Them Crooked Vultures

Retro-inspired, alternative sound ring true in this top 2009 alternative song that takes you back to an earlier time, yet sounds refreshingly new. On the Them album, this song features the combined talents of John Paul Jones, Led Zeppelin's bass player, Foo Fighter's Dave Grohl and Josh Homme from the Queen's of the Stone Age. It's an alternative song that sounds better every time you listen to it.

4. Sometime Around Midnight by The Airborne Toxic Event

The story-telling, smooth vocals and the way the electric guitar builds from gentle background music to a feverous pitch makes this a sure pick for the top alternative songs for 2009. This song oozes with emotion belted out by Mikel Jollett and is one you'll find yourself listening to over and over again.

5. Use Somebody by Kings of Leon

No top 10 list alternative songs of 2009 would be complete without the Kings of Leon. Possibly, my favorite band at the moment, the Kings of Leon inspire you to move with brilliant guitar riffs and lyrics that invite you to sing along.

6. Just Breathe by Pearl Jam

Pearl Jam shines in their 2009 Backspace album. This song slows it down a bit and lets Eddie Vedder shine with his unique vocals. Although, Pearl Jam's ninth album their sound rings true to their past and is a delight on the ears.

7. Mess of Me by Switchfoot

A soul-searching song takes listeners on a journey of self-examination and the power to fight through the challenges of life. On the Hello Hurricane album, this is one of the top 10 alternative songs for 2009 with dreamy vocals and rich rhythms.

8. Break by Three Days Grace

Get ready to move with the raw guitar riffs and lyrics of this top 2009 alternative song. Featured on the band's third album, this song is a must-have on any workout or tailgating mix.

9. Wheels by Foo Fighters

This song is part of a greatest hits collection showcasing the Foo Fighters at their finest. The sweet vocals of Dave Grohl and proven hard rock sound make this song easy to sing along with and a joy to listen to.

10. Crying Lighting by the Artic Monkeys
