2009 Washington Redskins Regular Season Schedule

Dean L.
The whole landscape of the NFL schedule could change depending on the draft and some rookies making big impacts. Also, a lot can change for the Redskins depending on how their new free agents and last year's rookies play. Here's a prediction of how the Redskins will do in the 2009 Regular Season.

Week 1 (9/13): @ Giants

Note: For the second year in a row, the Redskins face the Giants in their opener. The Giants quietly shored up their already stout defense during the offseason. They've also gotten rid of problem receiver Plaxico Burress, which leaves a question mark at receiver, but removes a point of stress for the team. Also, there are rumors that the Giants are trying trade for Browns receiver Braylon Edwards, which if it goes through, would improve the Giants offense immensely. All in all, this doesn't look like a good situation for the Skins to start out with.

Predicted Result: Loss

Week 2 (9/20): vs. Rams

Note: With a new coach, Marc Bulger showing himself on a downturn, and really no receivers to speak of, the Rams are going to be struggling this year. The one thing going for them in this game is that their head coach was the former Giants' defense coordinator, so should have a good idea of how the Redskins offense runs. However, that shouldn't be enough to get them a "W" here.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 3 (9/27): @ Lions

Note: The Lions are in a worse situation than the Rams. They have a new head coach and a real question at quarterback. Their only viable player is Calvin Johnson, so unless he can throw the ball to himself, return kicks, and play defense, the Lions are going to be the league's whipping boy for at least one more year.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 4 (10/04): vs. Bucs

Note: The schedulers really showed the Redskins some favor here because this is the third team in a row that has a new head coach and quarterback issues. A lot of the veterans are gone, so the team is young and in a rebuilding stage. Again, that is just too much to overcome.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 5 (10/11): @ Panthers

Note: Based on last year's record and the fact that the team still has Steve Smith and a dynamic running back duo, this would shape up as a loss. However, during the playoffs last year, Jake Delhomme showed that he is not the quarterback he once was. There is a good chance that Julius Peppers will be traded, so there's enough question marks for the Skins to come in and get a win.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 6 (10/18): vs. Chiefs

Note: Again, there is a situation with a rookie head coach, but this may be different. The Chiefs have Matt Cassel and one or two weapons on offense. Ultimately, though, the Chiefs defense will be their downfall.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 7 (10/26): vs. Eagles

Note: Division rival on a Monday Night at home. The Redskins are horrible on Monday nights at home. That's about it.

Predicted Result: Loss

Week 8 (11/1): Bye

Week 9 (11/08): @ Falcons

Note: The real question is whether Matt Ryan will have sophmore slump this year. The Falcons have a legit receiver in Roddy White and a star running back in Michael Turner. The Falcons may just be able eke this one out.

Predicted Result: Loss

Week 10 (11/15): vs. Broncos

Note: Again with the new head coaches with quarterback situations! Kyle Orton and the Bronco's defense are going to be their downfall.

Predictred Result: Win

Week 11 (11/22): @ Cowboys

Note: First game at the new stadium. I think the Cowboys will be too much here.

Predicted Result: Loss

Week 12 (11/29): @ Eagles

Note: Back to back division rivals on the road means a likely loss.

Predicted Result: Loss

Week 13 (12/06): vs. Saints

Note: Drew Brees and the Saints passing offense will be amazing as usual, but the question here is whether their defense will be able to stop other teams. Greg Williams is their new defense coordinator, whom the Redskins should be very familiar with. He is also somewhat overated (see the Jaguars last year), so the Redskins definitely have a chance assuming their offense can score.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 14 (12/13): @ Raiders

Note: Though the Redskins run the risk of overestimating the Raiders, but really. It's the Raiders.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 15 (12/21): vs. Giants

Note: The Giants tend to end well, so this will be a difficult task again for the Redskins.

Predicted Result: Loss

Week 16 (12/26): vs. Cowboys

Note: While the Giants tend to end well, the Cowboys don't. Expect Tony Romo to cost the Cowboys a win here.

Predicted Result: Win

Week 17 (1/03): @ Chargers

Note: The Chargers may have the division wrapped up by this time in a weak AFC West. However, if the past few years are any indication, they may be limping their way to the playoffs, so they might be playing hard here. The defense should be much improved too, with Shawne Merriman coming back.

Predicted Result: Loss

Predicted Overall Record: 9-7
