2009 New Year's Resolution - My 5 Steps to Success

Roger G
I never make New Year's resolutions. Why bother making a promise you'll never keep? I used to. I'd follow the trend and tell everybody my resolution for the upcoming year. Come February, I'd have forgotten all about it as did most everyone else I knew. But there were always those few who kept to their pledge and wanted to know how I was doing with mine. It just became too embarrassing to admit my failure, so I quit telling anybody. I became a resolution atheist.

2009 is different. This time I have a 5 step plan that I know will work, so I'm tossing my hat into the ring. My New Year's Resolution for 2009 is to - lose weight. Okay, it's not all that original, but it's the best I could come up with. Everything else seemed too hard. It's not going to be dieting, just losing weight. How much? Well, I don't know - a couple of pounds, maybe. It's been a long time since I've done this, so I didn't want to get too carried away with details.

Anyway, here's how I'm going to do it in 5 easy, well calculated steps:

1. Change my eating habits by cutting back on fast foods. This will be a reduction to 4-5 times a week from the normal 5 or 6.

2. Regular Exercise by walking to the corner convenience store rather than taking the car for that half block, unless it rains, or looks like it'll rain.

3. Eat healthier buy ordering a diet drink with my food orders.

4. Take up a physical activity like golf or bowling. The Wii gaming system has programs for both, so I can still play even when I don't feel like getting out of my chair.

5. Congratulate myself every day on keeping to my plan. I'll set my email to automatically send me praise each morning so I won't have to get up too early.

And there it is - a solid 5 step program for keeping my 2009 New Year's Resolution.

On a final note, this was done as a tongue-in-cheek article, but my wife read it and thought it was a great plan, wondering when we'd start. Yes, she's a blonde.
