2009 New Year's Resolutions All Humans Should Make

Darcy Sautelet
Another year dawns with the hope of fresh possibilities. A new chapter in the time sequenced life of humans. All over the planet people wake with the thought of their coming year. Resolutions are made, some serious, some with laughter, many nothing more than fleeting thoughts that fly away in the normal flow of a person's day. I have read and heard many resolutions people make..."this year I will lose weight", "I will make more money", "as of today I no longer smoke"....resolutions which revolve around money, looks, habits, careers, to the silliest most ridiculous things a person can come up with.

I look around the world we live in as we move into the calendar year of 2009. Two thousand and nine years of recorded history in which humans must have learned or become enlightened in some way. Two thousand and nine years we have had the ability to look to our past to understand the actions which lead to wars, economic crisis, and the destruction of societies. In this age of materialism we sometimes lose track of our history, our sacrifices, and our desires to live in natural abundance and joy. We put our happiness like a price tag onto objects and careers and false egos. But I - never lose hope. In this spirit of hope and the idealistic belief in human decency I give to you a list of New Years Resolutions for 2009.

1. To look at each person you interact with - regardless of age, sex, or color - and remember they too feel, love, dream, wish, cry, smile, and hope.

2. Wake each day and think what you can give to the world (even if just in your little space of the world) and not what the world owes you or can give to you.

3. Resolve that each time you come to one of life's hurdles you will remember to just breathe. Taking that one second to breathe brings things into focus.

4. Remember to resort to logic and reason instead of sensationalism and fanatic passion to guide your beliefs and opinions.

5. Look for balance in your life, not perfection.

6. Resolve not to label yourself or others as this puts you into a box with sides that do not open.

7. Not to judge others because their lifestyle or priorities may be different than yours.

8. Show your children and others through action that time with them is worth more to you than any materialistic item.

9. Remember that all creatures have purpose and value.

10. Resolve to always remember that material things can be destroyed or taken away - while Love for another human lasts forever - even beyond death.

Very good New Year's list. If only a person were to truly learn from this. I read and think to myself, "This will be me!" and yet I still have that fatal flaw, "being human". I still want to lose weight and make more money....hehe. Maybe I can do a little bit of it all......?

I am aware of this. :P It was my attempt to point out the way people use the calandar -which translates from Latin as "account book" - to "box up" the chronicles of our society.
