While many folks would love to see a playoff or better matchups such as TCU and Boise State against BCS powers instead of each other for example, the current bowl schedule is still something that brings a ton of college football excitement.
Here are picks and predictions for some noteworthy games during the 2009-2010 bowl schedule from New Year's Day to early games and beyond.
2009-2010 College Football Bowl Picks and Predictions
Meineke Car Care Bowl Pick, Dec. 26, Pitt vs. North Carolina-
Pittsburgh was one point away from the BCS and now they have to settle for an average bowl. But this is a good matchup.
The pick: Pittsburgh, 28-20
Emerald Bowl Pick, Dec. 26, USC vs. Boston College-
USC has fallen far this season but with time to prepare and superior athletes, Pete Carroll's team will win big.
The pick: USC, 35-14
Holiday Bowl Pick, Dec. 30, Arizona vs. Nebraska-
Always a high-scoring bowl, the Holiday Bowl took Nebraska instead this year. This should be a defensive battle but Nebraska doesn't have enough offense to win.
The pick: Arizona 23, Nebraska 16
Capital One Bowl Pick, Jan. 1, Penn State vs. LSU-
Both teams have very good defenses but PSU gets the nod here due to a big experience edge at QB with Daryll Clark.
The pick: PSU 25, LSU 18
Rose Bowl Game Pick, Jan. 1, Ohio State vs. Oregon-
See this article for a bigger game breakdown and pick.
Sugar Bowl Game Pick, Jan. 1, Cincinnati vs. Florida-
The Bearcats have the athletes and coaching to keep this one close but Florida has more experience on the big stage.
The pick: Florida 33, Cincinnati 29
Fiesta Bowl Game Pick, Jan. 4, TCU vs. Boise State-
The Broncos are a great program but TCU has slightly better athletes and a stronger defense and special teams.
The pick: TCU 24, Boise State 20
Orange Bowl Game Pick, Iowa vs. Georgia Tech, Jan. 5-
Two evenly-matched teams, this should be an exciting game. Iowa's veteran defense and toughness in the trenches should eventually slow the GT option game.
The pick: Iowa 27, GT 24
BCS National Title Game, Texas vs. Alabama, Jan. 7-
Read this article for an in-depth preview of the game, which I pick Alabama to win.
Thanks for reading and enjoy the college bowl game season!
