2009-2010 NFL Fantasy Football Rookies: Top 10

From Knowshon Moreno to Matt Stafford

Josh Wiley
Some fantasy football leagues, especially keeper leagues have a separate fantasy football draft for the incoming NFL rookies. For those keeper league players looking for an early look at the 2009-2010 fantasy football rookies, this article is for you. The 2008 season saw how valuable NFL rookies can be. Titles were won with Matt Forte, Chris Johnson, Steve Slaton, Joe Flacco and Matt Ryan. The 2009 class does not appear to be as strong but some solid contributors can be found. Here is the top 10 NFL Fantasy Football rookies for the 2009-2010 NFL Season:

1. Knowshon Moreno- RB Denver Broncos

Knowshon Moreno was the top Running Back coming out of college this year. Moreno had over 3300 yards and 32 touchdowns in his two seasons at Georgia. Moreno instantly becomes the top running back on Denver's roster and new coach Josh Mcdaniels drafted him to be an everydown back. Moreno should be the top Fantasy Football Rookie selected in any fantasy football draft for the 2009-2010 season. Put Moreno in your top 20 for your running back rankings and draft him in the 3rd to 4th round of a any new fantasy football draft.

2. Chris Wells- RB Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals have released Edgerrin James and would prefer to use Tim Hightower as a change of pace back. There appears to be plenty of opportunity in Arizona for Wells to get carries this year. When drafting fantasy football rookies, running backs should always top this list. This year is know different, take Wells as the second rookie selected in your draft and hope for him to win the starting job.

3. Donald Brown- RB Indianapolis Colts

Joseph Addai has broken down with injuries in each of the last two seasons. The Colts were concerned enough about this to draft Brown in the first round. Brown topped 2000 yards last year at UCONN and is a gifted runner. The Colts will likely use a backfield by committee to try to keep Addai healthy for the full season. Brown should be the 3rd fantasy football rookie taken in your 2009-2010 draft.

4. Michael Crabtree- WR San Francisco 49ers

Crabtree slipped to 10th in the NFL draft. The 49ers could have just stolen the next great NFL wide receiver. Crabree posses all of the skills to be a top wide receiver in this league. He might not put up eye popping numbers this season but remember fantasy football rookie wideouts Desean Jackson and Eddie Royal both made immediate impacts last season. Crabtree is more talented than either of these players. Take Crabtree as the 1st wide receiver from the rookie class taken in your 2009-2010 fantasy football draft.

5. Shonn Greene- RB New York Jets

The New York Jets traded up to get this battering ram out of Iowa. Greene averaged over 6 yards per carry at Iowa with 20 touchdowns last season. I would gamble in your fantasy football rookie draft by taking Greene as the 4th running back selected. Greene is talented and will find a way to make the field. Thomas Jones is aging and we all know whats happened to aging running backs. Greene is a fantasy football sleeper in all drafts for this season and must handcuff for Thomas Jones owners

Best of the Rest

6. Darius Heyward Bey- WR Oakland

7. Lesean McCoy- RB Philadelphia

8. Mark Sanchez- QB New York Jets

9. Hakeem Hicks-WR New York Giants

10. Matt Strafford- QB Detroit Lions

Fantasy Football Rookie MVP- Knowshon Moreno

Best Keeper League QB Prospect- Mark Sanchez

Rookie Sleeper - Donald Brown

Rookie Bust- Jeremy Maclin

The 2009-2010 fantasy football season can be won or lost by fantasy rookies. Remember this happened in 2008. Keep an eye on the preseason and readjust the fantasy football rookie rankings accordingly.
