In Old Colorado City, there are lots of little shops up and down the street. The Annual Scarecrow Days is a chance for all of those shops to show off their holiday spirit. They post various scarecrows all around town, in front of their stores or right inside. Each one is unique and fun. No matter what they are selling on the inside, the window dressing and the entrances are ready for Fall and Halloween.
But it is not just for looks. There is a contest. Each shop scarecrow has a number on it and a form to fill out if you think that is the best one. At a later date, there will be a tally of all of those votes and the shop with the most votes will win the title of the Best submission. They get a ribbon and bragging rights. Some lucky voter will also win a $300 gift basket. It is hard to pick the best one, because they are all so cute. You can tell the rivalry is fierce. All of the entries deserved some type of ribbon. They were festive and fun. The winner will be announced October 31st at the Annual Halloween Costume Contest in the Old Town Plaza located at 25th & West Colorado Ave.
We spent our Saturday touring Old Colorado City and checking out all of the entries. Along with so many cute and scary Scarecrows, there was lots of opportunities to shop. This is also a chance for many of the shops that close around Thanksgiving, to get some last minutes sales and for shoppers to get early Christmas savings. Throughout the city, the deals were phenomenal. Each store marked items down to the bare minimum. They have many specials advertised and many items posted outside, on clearance racks as well.
The 14th Annual Scarecrows Days are happening from October 1st through October 31. There are many events happening throughout the month. Here are just a few, according to the event website at www.historicdistrictmerchants.com
1.Scarecrow Photo Stations - Displays will be set up in 5 locations on Colorado Ave. between 24th Street and 27th Street. October 1st thru October 31st. Bring the family, and your camera for a fun family Photograph.

Post a CommentWay cool! I've missed the scarecrows since I moved to the city. Plenty of crows in San Diego, but they aren't scared of anything. :o(
