If 2009 was the year of surprise box office hits with movies like "The Blindside", then 2010 should be the year of box office action hero. A ton of action movies are due to release as early as January and continue throughout the year. Everything from comic hero's such as the Green Hornet with Seth Rogen, to timeless tells of Robin Hood directed by Ridley Scott, starring Russell Crowe and yes, even more vampires in Daybreakers starring Ethan Hawke. Yet, with just mentioning those few there are five that truly stand out as being the most anticipated action movies for 2010.

Number 5: INCEPTION- Leonardo DiCaprio, Ken Wantanabe, Joseph Gordon-
Levitt and Michael Caine. Directed by Christopher Nolan (The
Dark Knight).

Synopsis - Not your typical blackmail movie. Leonardo plays CEO-type Jacob who along with his team, has developed a technology of entering peoples minds through injection in order to retrieve information. Jacob (Dicaprio) then is blackmailed by Saito (Ken Wantanabe), but not in the usual sort of blackmail way of "framing" someone by planting physical evidence. When the "evidence" is planted in your mind as a dream how do you go about proving yourself innocent? Inception is due to release July 16th 2010.

Number 4: The EXPENDABLES- Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li,
Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, Britanny Murphy

Synopsis - This is a virtual "who's who" of action movies over the last 20 years. Written, directed and Lead by Sylvester Stallone A secretly put together mercenary squad by various nations, known as "The Expendables" are hired to over throw a South American dictator who has caused havoc on the world for the last 20 years. What the group soon realizes is that not only are they fighting against the dictators army but the governments that created them. With action stars like Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Steve Austin, as well as appearences by Mickey Rourke, Bruce Willis and Arnold this is sure to be ole' fashion shoot'em up, blow everything sky high fun! Reportedly, one of the best scenes comes when Sly, Bruce and Arnold are all on screen together for a "sit-down" August 20, 2010

Number 3:PREDATORS - Staring Adrien Brody, Danny Trejo, Topher Grace.
Directed by Nimrod Antal.

Synopsis - Robert Rodriquez and Troublemaker Studios are completely skipping over and ignoring Predator 2. The premise of the movie is that various "warriors" from earth who are predators in their own right, are abducted and brought back to the Predator home world for a game of cat and mouse against an elite group of Predators including the "Super Black Predator". Rumors continue to swirl if Arnold will reprise the role of "Dutch" for a camo appearance, we will see July 7,2010

Number 2: SALT - Staring Angelina Jolie, Leiv Schreiber Directed by
Phillip Noyce (Clear and Present Danger / Patriot Games)

Synopsis - Angelina plays CIA officer Evelyn Salt, whose accused, by a Russian defector, of trying to assassinate the President. Salt (Jolie) goes on the run utilizing her skills and experience to elude her capture and prove her innocence while trying to uncover her true identity and answer the question "Who is Salt". It's Jason Bourne meets the Fugitive with a blonde Angelina. Salt is set to release July 23, 2010.

MOST ANTICIPATED MOVIE for 2010:

IRON MAN 2 - Starring Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L Jackson and Directed by Jon Favreau

Synopsis - Robert Downey Jr. reprises the role of Tony Stark, AkA Iron Man, in the most anticipated release the summer of 2010. Set six months after where the first movie left off we see Stark dealing with the "pressures of being a role model when he's not ready to be one". Rumors surround this as the "Demon in a Bottle" story-line from the Marvel Comics Group. Although there are many similarities including the introduction of new villains Whiplash (Mickey Rourke, and Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell), Downey revealed during development that the film was not an adaptation of Demon in a Bottle but more about the "interim space" between the origin and the Demon story. In an interview with Mtv, Downey was quoted "I think that's probably best saved, because it's such its own story-line." One notable change is that Don Cheadle replaces Terrence Howard as Lt Colonel Rhodes aka War Machine. Iron Man 2 is totally about Tony Stark's story but is building up to the planned release of "The Avengers" in 2012 according to Marvel Studio's Kevin Feige at the San Diego Comic-con.
Iron Man 2 is set to release May 7, 2010.
