2010 Arizona Republican Senate Primary Race Kicks into Gear
AZ. Senator John McCain and Challenger J.D. Hayworth Address the Tough Issues as the Primary Election Draws Near
Issues Facing the Candidates
Homeland Security
Health Care Reform
Education
Economy & Jobs
Agriculture
Veterans
Government Spending
National Security
Medicare & Social Security
These issues are important to the voter and in order for a candidate to be supported they better have some exceptional ideas for reform and answers to tough issues that can be achieved.
Sen. John McCain
Sen. McCain has been serving in Washington since 1982 when he was elected to the House of Representatives from Arizona, serving 2 terms then elected to the senate in 1986. Sen. McCain's theme is reform. Government spending, health care, and education are the areas he claims need restructuring. According to Sen. McCain's website he wants to secure the future for Arizonians and the nation. He states that by securing our borders, strengthening our allegiance with Mexico, reforming health care, reforming education, protecting farmers' freedoms, opposing higher taxes, and reforming Medicare and Social Security, our country and the state of Arizona will become stronger. J.D. Hayworth
J.D. Hayworth served as a Republican member of the House of Representatives from 1995 through 2007. He is a radio and television personality and has written a book titled, 'Whatever it Takes," concerning the illegal immigration issues. According to Hayworth's website he is going to fight for our second amendment rights, heath reform, fight against higher taxes, fight for real border security, defend life and marriage and end the bailouts. Hayworth is also on Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube. If you want to learn more about this candidate research these links.

Illegal Immigration Hot Issue for Candidates
The illegal immigration issue is a heated topic right now in Arizona because of the new immigration law signed by Gov. Jan Brewer last week. Both candidates are using the issue to promote their campaign agenda.
Yesterday, May 5, 2010 ABC News reports that Sen. McCain stated if President Obama does not ask Congress to send the National Guard to the border for military protection, he will. After yesterday's shooting and wounding of a Pinal County police officer and the March 27th killing of a Cochise rancher, many feel it is time for military protection along the border.
And today, CBS News reported that in support of the new immigration law, J.D. Hayworth called for Phoenix Suns Manager, Steve Kerr, to publicly apologize for remarks made comparing the new immigration law to Nazi Germany. Hayworth states that there is no basis for facts on such a comment. Many businesses and companies in Arizona and nationwide have been voicing their stance on this new law.
My Opinion
So many times in a campaign, candidates will attack the other and I disagree with that approach. I think a contestant should focus on themselves and what they can or can not do. I have noticed that J.D. Hayworth has taken on this strategy. On his website his has a "comparison page" as well as on his "issues page" he addresses many negative subjects about his opponent. This tactic will not stop me from voting for him. But I have not made my decision yet. This is a hard race for a voter like me who likes what each candidate stands for. I am going to have to continue to watch each candidate and make my decision later, maybe on Election Day!
