27-year-old Ryan Hall of California pulled away to easily win the $12,500 first prize at the Quad-City Times Bix 7 half marathon on the hills of Davenport, Ia., July 24, 2010. Hall did not take the lead on the seven mile course until about the five mile mark, but from there he easily led the pack. Hall is the first American born runner to win the Bix in nineteen years. His time of 32 minutes, 55 seconds was the slowest winning time since 1999; undoubtedly, the pace was slowed by the persistent rain. Ed Moran of Williamsburg, Va., who won the U.S. 10K championship three weeks ago, finished second with Sean Quigley of Philadelphia in third.
The women's division was led by 22-year-old Lisa Koll. This was the first ever professional road race for Koll, who is a four time NCAA champ and a recent graduate of Iowa State. Koll, an Iowa native, came from Fort Dodge to compete in the 36th annual race through the streets of Davenport. She is the first Iowa native to win the 7 mile run since 1980. She finished in 37 minutes and 52 seconds to top Amy Hastings of Mammoth Lakes, Calif., by 41 seconds.
Tragedy struck the course this morning when 41-year-old man from Galesburg, IL. suffered cardiac arrest at 15th and Brady streets while participating in the Bix 7. John Chapman was later confirmed dead by Genesis Medical Center. Chapman was the Galesburg High School wrestling coach. He is reported as being the third runner to die while participating in the Bix.

Oh. Running. I had no idea as I'm not into sports. Very sad to have somebody die.
How sad...to end such an event on a tragic note. Good reporting Lynn.
