There have been some reports that the show is shrinking, but according to NY1.com, Gary Shapiro of the Consumer Electronics Association states "The footprint is smaller because a whole bunch of companies went out of business, some are cutting back. But we have 330 new exhibitors we've never heard of before; that's a record. You know, the message was 'innovate or die', and companies have stepped up and the innovations are huge."
What can consumers expect at this show? Well, TV manufacturers such as Panasonic and LG may be teaming up with Skype to bring video conferencing right to your living room, bringing a new level to telecommuting or working at home. This would also open up opportunities for small businesses to do business world wide without having to undertake expensive travel.
Slate PC's are also all the rage at this year's Consumer Electronics Show. Think of a slate PC as an iPhone on steroids. These types of devices have the capabilities of a laptop or personal computer, yet are as portable as a phone. Up until now Apple has been getting most of the credit for trying to develop something like this. After all, they are the mastermind behind the iPhone, the popular touch-screen smart phone that doubles as a camera, mp3 player, and much more.
However, HP has announced that they have a version of this type of computing device that runs Windows 7. It is presumed to be available sometime later in 2010. According to InformationWeek, a demonstration of a slate PC showcases that it is suitable for e-reading, much moreso than an Amazon Kindle.
The 2010 Consumer Electronics Show is sure to be a hit with techies and those that just want to learn more about innovations that are currently underway. In an increasingly technological society, you can expect more and more cool gadgets to help make our lives simpler. Just a few short years ago, you would have never expected to have a mobile phone that also had all the capabilities that today's iPhones and Google Phones have. Now, as we look in to the future the CES gives us a glimpse at what we may expect as time goes on.
