Despite having to endure the worst year of his career, Tiger Woods remains one of the favorites to win the Chevron Challenge. Woods still possesses the same set of skills that helped him reaching and staying at number 1 for so many years. It is just a matter of Tiger regaining the intensity and lost confidence he was known for. Woods' recent work with golf instructor Sean Foley appears to have paid off in a big way. At the JBWere Masters in November, the former world no.1 displayed flashes of his former self in the event's final round en route to a superb 65; Tiger's 4th place finish is one of his best performances this year.
Among the favorites to win the 2010 Chevron World Challenge are Graeme McDowell and Rory McIlroy. The Irish duo is playing the best golf of their career. McDowell won the U.S. Open in June, and was only a few dollars short of winning European Tour's Race to Dubai. McIlroy won his first championship on the U.S. Tour in April and has finished well in all WGC events. The biggest advantage the two players have over the rest of the field is the fact that they have been playing competitive golf for the last few weeks, while other players were taking a long vacation. There is no competitive rust for either player.
As the Chevron World Challenge is comprised of highly accomplished and talented players, each of the participants has a decent shot at winning the event. It is matter of which player will get hot at the right time. My money is on Graeme McDowell to win the tournament. The Tiger Woods-hosted event is set for December 2-5. The Golf Channel will air the early rounds (4-7 PM EST); NBC Sports will provide coverage for the final two rounds (3-6 PM EST).
