2010 Christmas Events in Bakersfield, California

Shannon Wilson
Christmas in Bakersfield is one of my favorite times of the year. The weather is nice and chilly, everything is decorated for Christmas and best of all...there are Christmas events that I can take my family too.

I enjoy doing things with my kids so events during the holiday have become very important to all of us. If you're like me, you're probably already trying to find out information on what Christmas events will be going on in Bakersfield this year.

This article will help get you started by detailing a few of the Christmas events in town that you won't want to miss.

#1: Bakersfield Christmas Parade

The Christmas Parade is a much loved Bakersfield tradition. It's what really kicks off the Christmas season in our town and this year marks off the 28th parade! The Christmas Parade starts on December 2nd (a Thursday) at 6 PM and ends at 8 PM. The parade is in downtown Bakersfield. For a parade route, visit here. Don't worry if you can't make it. It is shown live on one of our local new stations.

#2: Holiday Lamplight Tours

The Kern County Museum is having their Holiday Lamplight Tours again this year on December 4th starting at 3 PM and ending at 8 PM. The Museum decorates several of their buildings in a seasonal theme. Guests can ride on a horse drawn wagon. Lanterns will be set up among the grounds. To make it feel more authentic, volunteers will be costumed amongst the grounds, greeting those who attend. There will be local entertainment, a hand bell choir and more. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children. If you have a museum membership, admission drops to $5 for adults and $There will be local entertainment, a hand bell choir and more. Cookies at the Clock Tower is an event that I really enjoy taking my kids too. It is an event that is held at the Lori Brock Children's Discovery Center at the Kern County Museum. It is on December 12th from 12 PM to 3 PM. There are crafts and games for children as well as cookies and hot drinks. Santa Claus will be there and one of my sons was delighted to find that even two Storm Troopers from Star Wars were there. Admission is $5 dollars for adults and for kids 3 to 12 years old. If you are a museum member, you are free.

Every November/December, the zoo transforms into a lighted wonderland of dancing lights. The lights are on trees and other displays that are built to look like animals.
