2010 CMAs: Gwyneth Paltrow?

Magnolia Miller
Okay, so, you've probably already heard about the big wins at the CMAs last night. Country cutie, Miranda Lambert mopped up with Song of the Year for "The House that Built Me", Album of the Year for Revolution and Female Vocalist of the Year.

Her cute boyfriend and soon to be husband, Blake Shelton took home Male Vocalist of the Year and funny man, guitar whiz, Brad Paisley, walked away with the Entertainer of the Year.

All in all it was a decent show except for the fact that my favorite tattooed hottie, Keith Urban, showed up again with that wife of his again. Puh-leeze, Keith, I can love you better than that. Promise.

Anyway. Performances were good overall except one really strange production by Sugarland. I don't know what to tell you except it was too artsy-fartsy for me and didn't go over well, frankly. But, maybe the crappy song had something to do with that?

Gwyneth Paltrow Goes Country

It was Gwyneth Paltrow, believe it or not, that was the most memorable performance of the night. Did you know she can actually sing? You may know that Gwyneth has a new movie coming out with a real country singer, Tim McGraw, where she plays a washed up country singer trying to make a comeback. Yeah, I know, original.

In the film she does all of her own singing and honestly? Not bad. Not bad at all. Especially when you take into consideration that Taylor Swift, while a brilliant song-writer and highly entertaining performer can barely carry a tune in a bucket and has a roaring country music career.

Translation: You don't have to be a great singer to succeed in the music industry.

Of course, it didn't hurt Gwyneth's case that she had the king of the duets, Vince Gill singing beside her. Because, let's face it, Vince Gill can make anybody sound like Pavarotti. While there were moments where she sounded strained and a wee bit off key, overall I would have to hand Gwyneth Paltrow a good solid 8 score.

Not to mention, she seemed remarkably poised on that stage singing for some of the best voices in the music industry. That had to be nerve racking. So what did you think? Does Gwyneth Paltrow have a shot at a country music singing career if the acting thing doesn't work out for her?

I thought she was just okay. It could have been worse.
