2010 CMT Awards: Ramblings and Winners!

Karen Gros
Tonight the 2010 CMT Awards aired live from Nashville, Tennessee and was carried live on CMT. Kid Rock hosted the show, a surprise move, but one that worked none the less. Carrie Underwood ended up being the big winner tonight of the top award for Video of the Year, but that wasn't really a surprise now was it?

Why do I watch the CMT's? That's a good question. My first reason for watching the awards show is because I'm a country music fan. I like to see what the various artists are going to do on the show-are they going to present awards or perform? Who will win an award? And who will make a fool of themselves? Who will arrive looking trashy? And who will be glamorous?

Tonight's award show was fast paced and filled with commercials. It seems like every five minutes they were breaking to run those commercials. It got really annoying! However, the show seemed to stay on pace. Kudo's to the producers for that!

Here are a few of my favorite highlights of tonight's show:

I loved Taylor Swift's straight hair. That had to be the big surprise of the night! Taylor introduced Keith Urban and John Mayer who performed "I Hit the Ground Running" together and dueled it out on guitars. It was a pretty amazing duet, but the guitar playing stole the show. Even Kid Rock noticed and commented that Urban and Mayer's guitars were making love!

Carrie Underwood looked pretty hot in tight black leather pants and a shiny grey top singing her current hit "Undo It." Carrie got off to a pitchy start but recovered quickly and turned her performance into one of the best of the night. She really knows how to work the crowd!

Speaking of Carrie Underwood, I didn't care for the hot pink dress she was wearing for accepting her awards tonight. The high neck to the dress was just odd and the top seemed too poofy. It wasn't very appealing in my opinion.

While we are on the subject of pink, how did you like Miranda Lambert's pink guitar? It was awesome! Miranda played her guitar while performing "White Liar." Miranda looked sharp in a black sequined dress that hit mid thigh. The crowd enjoyed her performance and some lucky fan caught her guitar pick at the end of her performance.

I loved the acceptance speech of Kix Brooks for Duo of the Year, but where was Ronnie Dunn? Is he that sick of working with Kix or is he just sick? He hasn't been looking well in recent months. It's sad to see these two split up. They have brought so many hits to country music.

I have to say that the biggest surprise performance came from LeeAnn Rimes. She hasn't been in the limelight in the last couple of years, except for personal reasons (divorce). It was good to see her come out and give a very high strung performance of "Swingin." Rimes dressed the part and also did a great little dance number to go along with the fast paced song. LeeAnn looked great and sounded great. I think she's going to make a big comeback. Watch out gals!

Enough of my rambles, let's get on with the awards!

So, just who were the big winners?

Video of the Year- Carrie Underwood for "Cowboy Cassanova"

Male Video of the Year- Keith Urban for "Til Summer Comes Around"

Female Video of the Year- Miranda Lambert for "White Liar"

Love "White Liar" and Keith Urban rocks. "Cowboy Casanova" is an okay song, but too pop for country. Still, this was a 'video' award show...

Super great review! I didn't get to watch it but your vivid details made me feel like I got to watch it in 1/100 the time. Liked your opinion on Kerry's outfit--"too poofy". Funny.
