Recently released on DVD and Blu-Ray disc here in the USA on February 23, 2010. (Available at this time at all local Blockbuster stores, Netflix Internet and Walmart or Kroger Redbox machines).
Director/screenplay-writer Richard Kelly re-wrote this "strange" sci-fi story in 2007, originally written by 84 year-old author Richard Matheson simply called "Button, Button" based on a short story he wrote in 1970......................
This 116 minute film/movie is NOT really that bad if you have high blood pressure or any other health care problems? Meaning that if you can keep up with the "weird" psychological antics that seem to change just about every five minutes of viewing. (The story/plot moved so fast, it should have been made into a mini-series). This truly remarkable viewing film was based around the dates of 1976, during the Viking Mars Probe, released by NASA engineers at this same time in history...........................
Most popular 72 year old stage and Hollywood film actor Frank Langella (Arlington Steward) plays the part of the disfigured lightning struck burned facial "mysterious man" that comes to your door-step and politely offers you (1) one million cash dollars if you simply press the button located at the Top of this small well made hand-crafted wooden box. Which husband James Marsden (Arthor Lewis) eventually reveals to be an empty box inside?.....................
After his beautiful wife Norma Lewis (Cameron Diaz) has reluctantly "Pressed The Button?" The unfortunate consequences begin: Someone that you do NOT know will die during the process. However? You will be rewarded (1) one million dollars in cash presented by the employee representative Arlington Steward, provided by his unknown employer, possibly living on the planet Mars? Which was never revealed during the film? But, ironically involved the FBI and NASA at the same time?.........................
If you are a TRUE believer of The Bible, then this so-called sometimes portrayed after-life film will not fit your understanding of life in general similar to the writings of Ray Bradbury regarding "The Martian Chronicles?" Although, this weird copy of "The Twilight Zone" Rod Serling episodes of the 1960's, has just about 10 different sci-fi story-lines mostly for any senior citizen that still lives in the Orlando dreams of Walt Disney World and suffers everyday from bipolar disease in their old age.............................
Your dear-old grandparents may have a better understanding of this 1950's-1960's film-story copy? Provided that they write down each event and or incident as it's happening and even try too analyze each story in complete detail which seemed to take place during the year of 1976 because of the NASA Viking Mars Probe, which the main objective story/plot seems to evolve around.................................
Visual effect facial disfigured Frank Langella (Arlington Steward) plays just about the "creepiest" part he has ever portrayed since his 1999 film called "The Ninth Gate", as Boris Balkan. Depicting his incredible award winning voice and often-times "weird" facial expressions. Especially during his phone conversations with wife Norma Lewis (Cameron Diaz). His historical voice reminds you of famous film star legend Vincent Price at times..........................
This film/movie simply called "The Box" was released in USA theaters on November 6, 2009. Critics gave it an average rating of C. Yahoo.com users/viewers gave it a low rating of C-. Stating that it was just too confusing for the average modern day viewer. You may want too "pause" each story-line as it happens during the film on DVD or Blu-Ray disc? and Write it down?.......................................
And eventually find out what your final results may be regarding the TRUE meaning of this film? Personally? I honestly believe it should have been called "The Test" instead of "The Box"? Which Arlington Steward stated that we actually live in a "Box" called our houses and drive automobiles inside of a box, which planet Mars ET employers may construe as the way earthlings or human-beings live their daily life's....................................
If you like this film. I personally would recommend doing a google search of the science fiction movie called 2012 Also released in the year 2009. Ex-wife (1992) of famous film director James Cameron. Kathryn Bigelow seemed to take home most of the 2010 Academy Award trophies this year for best film director and best-picture of 2009 in her film called "The Hurt Locker". Sandra Bullock won the award for best actress in her 2009 film called "The Blind Side", beating out her counter-part competitor Meryl Streep........................................
