Loser : Democratic Incumbents.
Almost every Democratic incumbent lost. These included the ones who supported Obama such as Russ Feingold from Wisconsin and the fake Democrats such as Blanche Lincoln from Arkansas.
Loser : Self-Funders
Meg Whitman, Carly Fiorina, Linda McMahon, Carl Paladino and many more all put substantial amount of money from their own personal wealth and lost. Meg Whitman, the real biggest loser, from California poured in $170 million into her race and lost big time.
Winner : Harry Reid
The Senate Majority Leader won against the Tea Party favorite Sharron Angle. While he said it was not even that close of a fight, which was true in the voting results, but Mrs. Angle sure gave him and the rest of the Democrat a real scare their for a minute. I would like to point out that according to the Sunlight Foundaton, a non-partisan foundation for transparency in Government, stated that " more than $7 million in outside spending poured into the race to oppose him, compared to $1 million to support him" And he still won ! And I am not happy because I like Mr. Reid, because I do not just because I feel he is too weak. I am happy that the voice of reason won in this election because Sharron Angle is a total idiot.
Winner : Rich Wall Street
The Big boys over there at Wall Street were not very happy with the Democrats because they tried to pass a financial reform législation to limit their control and their greed. Thus, Wall Street invested tremendously in Republicans and that is why many of the top recipients of these Wall Street sdollars won. I am sure Mr. Boehner from Ohio, the next Speaker of the House, sent big thank you notes to these lobbyists. Without them, he would probably be weeping for real this time but at his house !
Loser : Progressives
Unfortunately, many progressives lost in this elections while they are the one who fight the hardest for the working-class. Guys like Russ Feingold, Tom Perriello, Carol Shea-Porter and Mary Jo Kilroy. The sad story is that these people lost not because they did a bad job but because they were running against people who were heavily funded and they had no chance. I believe these people also lost because the fake democrats, aka Blue Dogs, failed to take a stand against the Republicans.
Now some people may not agree with this but I feel that Sarah Palin was a loser in this election. It is true Palin was a powerful campaigner throughout the election and she was powerful due to her mindless listeners not because she is a good politician. However, only 1/3 of the people she endorsed actually won and the others like Christine O'Donnell, Tom Tancredo, Sharron Angle, Joe Miller and John Rease lost miserably. Not only that but she went some bad publicity fighting with some Republicans and losing favorability with the general public. It became too obvious for some people that she is just trying to be in the public eye with campaigns, being on FOX channel and also a new reality show !
Loser: Michael Steele
Mr. Steele who became the chairman of the Republican National Committee in January of 2009 was a virtual unknown prior. He was the Lieutenant Governor of Maryland and then ran for the Senate seat of Maryland but lost. While the Republicans won big time, none of the credit was given to Mr. Steele. In fact, the Republicans are not happy with him and now that we have new Republicans in the picture it is becoming more difficult for him to stay in the picture. Especially when you have guys like Jim Demint who is not a big fan of Michael Steele.
Winner : The Republicans
No doubt the Republicans did a good job in winning all these seats. Their campaign of simply saying no to the President and to anything that will benefit the American people worked. The country voted for their return even though they were the cause of the problem we are in. However, we can not deny that the Republicans did a wonderful job in hiding the truth, not having a clear solution to any problem and just using the same rhetoric from the last decade and they managed to win.
Undecided : The Tea Party
While they won many seats, they also lost many seats. So can I say they were successful ? Not really but they definitely made an impact. Now, the question is what are they going to do ? Are they going to succumb to the Republicans, eventhough they are Republicans anyways, or would they stand up against them ? Would the Republicans crush them or would they become more powerful ?
Undecided : President Obama
Sure many would argue that he lost big time in that election. But let us put it in perspective. He did lose big in the house but he still maintained the Senate. Yes it is a small number but any vote does help. So we can not say it is the same loss that Bill Clinton suffered in 1994. Furthermore, all the president who suffered the same losses like Clinton and Eisenhower were actually re-elected and were able to pass many of their agendas. The question is what would Obama do ? Fight the Republicans, which what I think he should do, or compromise ? Only time will tell.
So now that the rich powerful corporations saw what they are capable of doing with the overflow of money, thanks to the radical right-winged Supreme Court, then I really wonder what will they do in the 2012 elections.
