2010 Emmy Awards: A Review of the Ceremonies & Winners

'Mad Men', 'Modern Family' & 'Temple Grandin' Dominated the Emmys with Major Wins

One of the highlights from the 2010 Emmy Awards Sunday night was no doubt the rousing opening number featuring host Jimmy Fallon and members of the FOX series "Glee" who were forlorn, because they could not afford the ticket prices for the Emmy Awards. Lo and behold there was a glee club singing contest just waiting to happen as they magically do in musicals. Fallon and company recruit their friends along the way. One in particular they ignored was reality TV star Kate Gosselin who assured them she can dance. Just like in musicals they broke out in song to Bruce Springsteen's anthem "Born to Run." I loved every minute of it. I'm not even a big fan of opening song and dance production numbers on TV.

Betty White and Jon Hamm were the first presenters. I was happy to see Betty White's cameo appearance in the earlier Springsteen number. In another category in comedy they honored the winners from the Creative Arts Emmy Awards the previous weekend with Betty White and Neil Patrick Harris for their guest appearances. It was fabulous to see one of my favorite reality shows "Top Chef" break "Amazing Race's" long-standing winning streak. Speaking of my favorite dramas on TV the stars of "Law & Order: SVU" were presenting together.

In the Drama category the Creative Arts Emmys went to Ann-Margret for a guest role in "Law & Order: SVU" and John Lithgow for his guest spot on "Dexter". Jimmy Fallon once again was in top form when he did a musical tribute to the shows not returning which were "24", "Law & Order" (original) and "Lost," I never laughed so hard when Fallon dressed up, looked like (especially with the eyes) and sang like the frontman, Billie Joe Armstrong from Green Day. On a serious note the HBO television movie "Temple Grandin" was a huge winner that practically dominated this category. Congratulations to Al Pacino for winning another Emmy in the TV movie about Jack Kevorkian.
