2010 Fall Fashion: Trends from Louis Vuitton and Alberto Guardani

1950's Inspired Fashions Better Meant for the Run Way

The fall 2010 trends are filled with fashion-forward styles from the past. Inspired by 1950's fashions designers created haute couture runway shows with over-the-top zeal. The designs created by Louis Vuitton and Alberto Guardani mimic 50's popular pieces such as printed dresses, long sleeve poodle sweaters and tea length skirts. Though many of these trends will be scaled down for retailers some of these pieces are unbecoming; making them dust catchers in the long run. Here are a few items that may look intriguing on the runways but don't deserve to take up space in your home.

Lipstick Pump

The lipstick pump by Alberto Guardani was a stand out fall fashion accessory. Guardani adhered to the fifties theme that pumps accompany all dresses and skirts; embodying "every inch the lady." Guardani's pumps were created in leather with a brazen red tube of lipstick for the heel. Although this shoe is distinct and unusual; it's not attractive. The heel looks a bit boxy compared to the smooth contours of the vamp but luckily this is what's on the runway and not on the shelves. If you like the pop of color look for pumps with a colored heel as an alternative to distinguish your pumps from plain Jane shoes.

Glasses

A pair of tortoise glasses in the right shape and shade can accentuate your face. Louis Vuitton took it to another level with the creation of tortoise glasses with silk lace to replace the lenses. These specs may have been a hit on the runway but in no way could someone where these as an everyday accessory. The glasses look spider webbish due to the lace; not to mention, who could see out of them anyhow?

Tea length skirts

Let's face it, the tea length skirt can be a dangerous combination when paired with some body types. The models for the Louis Vuitton show are small in nature, thin and gangly; which is a good build to wear a skirt this length. This isn't exactly the case for many and the in-between length can be tough for shorter or taller women. Skirts of this style are made to suit women of all heights but that doesn't necessarily mean the hemline will lay in the right spot. On the other hand, women with broader hips or fuller figures may like the loose fitting style.

People are longing for the simplicity and innocence of the 50's, before Viet Nam exploded and everything changed. I was so fortunate to be a child in the 50's.
