2010 Ford Taurus Review

Eric Loveday
For the 2010 model year, Ford decided that the Taurus was due for a freshening. The 2010 Ford Taurus is not an entirely new model, rather a mid cycle update. Some of the updates for the 2010 model year make the vehicle a better all around performer, while other updates hinder the vehicle's overall appeal.

Let's start with what's new for 2010. For the 2010 model year, Ford made several key changes to its flagship vehicle the Taurus. Starting on the exterior, Ford updated the sheet metal to give the Taurus a more distinct, sportier appearance. The new body is more edgy and modern in design and makes the Taurus stand out amongst the crowd. Inside, the vehicle received a more upscale appearance. New materials are used throughout making the Taurus appear to be more expensive than it actually is. The interior changes diminished passenger room and the exterior redesign hampers outward visibility.

Changes aside, the 2010 Ford Taurus is still an all around performer. It provides sound handling and a good ride. The interior is quiet, the engine responsive, and the fuel economy is respectable. The vehicle is a solid overall effort by Ford and the redesign freshens the previously dated look.

Moving on to specs. The 2010 Ford Taurus has a base price of $25,170. Fully optioned, the price tag can reach $37,170. Its available as either front wheel drive or AWD and comes in four distinct trim lines including the SE, SEL, Limited, and SHO. Engine choices include a 263 hp 3.5 liter V6, and in the SHO model a 365 hp twin turbo version of the 3.5 liter V6. A 6 speed automatic is standard on all trim lines.

Some major options to consider include AWD, heated seats, multi contour massaging seats, rear heated seats, moon roof, and leather interior.

The 2010 Ford Taurus is a true family sedan. It offers seating for 5 adults, though the back seat is a little tight on space. The 2010 redesign decreased interior room, making this vehicle less suitable for long trips with five passengers aboard. The rear seat back fold down to reveal an exceptional amount of cargo room. The trunk is very large for this class of vehicle and fold-able seats expand cargo space even more.

Ford has continued to make improvements in their recent offerings. Many Ford products are competitive with foreign competitors and the Taurus is no exception. For a relatively modest price, the Taurus offers strong acceleration from its base engine, the suspension soaks up irregularities with relative ease, its offers vast cargo space, decent interior room, acceptable gas mileage, a quiet well laid out interior and strong crash test ratings.

The newly freshened 2010 Ford Taurus should be included on your list of family sedans. It deserves a look and will not disappoint most drivers.
