2010 Furry Scurry

Exercise is good for both you and your dog. One way to get some good exercise while supporting a worthy cause is to go to the 2010 Furry Scurry, which raises money for the Denver Dumb Friends League.

The 2010 Furry Scurry will take place on May 1 this year. The two-mile walk will begin at 9am and starts in Washington Park. You may register for Furry Scurry the day of the event at Washington Park, beginning at 7am. The registration fee is $50 per person. You can bring your dog to walk with you if you chose. If you are a cat lover, you could print out a picture of your kitty and put it on your shirt or carry it with you during the walk.

In addition to the two-mile walk, you may participate in several other events at Furry Scurry this year. For instance, contests for Best Trick, Pet/Person Look-Alike, Best Pet Kisser, and Best Tail Wagger will begin at 9:45am. You may also see demonstrations and enjoy refreshments before, during, and after the walk. Additionally, you may visit over 100 vendors at this year's Flealess Market, which provide pet friendly services and merchandise for purchase.

For instance, you may get a microchip implanted in your dog, which is very important if your pet ever gets lost or runs away. Microchips help return pets to their owners when they get lost. In fact, pets are returned to their owners much more frequently when they are micro chipped than when they are not.

Depending on how much money you raise for the Denver Dumb Friends League, you can earn Furry Scurry prizes. If you raise $50, you receive a Furry Scurry T-shirt, if you raise $125, you receive a Furry Scurry long-sleeved T-shirt and baseball cap, $250 earns you a centennial box-cut sweatshirt, $375 earns you a Port-A-Poo, if you raise $500, you get a Furry Scurry water bottle, and so on. You can get prizes for your fund-raising all the way up to $5.000.

The Dumb Friends League is a great animal shelter for homeless pets. The Denver Dumb Friends League cares for more than 25,000 homeless pets each year, according to their website. Not only do they have dogs and cats up for a adoption, they also have guinea pigs, gerbils, rabbits, rats, and other small animals at the shelter, which are also available for adoption.

The Dumb Friends League also offers spay and neuter services, vaccinations, information on pet friendly rentals, information on pet friendly motels and hotels, euthanasia services, and a pet memorial garden where you can have your pet's ashes buried. The animal shelter also accepts claims of animal abuse and neglect by phone or on-line. Once receiving a report of abuse and/or neglect, Dumb Friends League checks out the situation and ensures the safety of the animal/s in question.

If you love pets of any kind, I encourage you to go to Furry Scurry this year. Even though the walk is on May 1, donations do not need to be turned in until May 31, so there's still time to raise money for Denver Dumb Friends League, which helps thousands of homeless animals every year.
