2010 Green Bay Packers 53 Man Roster Final Cuts Review: Spencer Havner Amongst Cut Players

Spencer Havner, Evan Dietrich-Smith Among Final Cuts

The Green Bay Packers have officially named their 53 man roster and the cuts that were made. The Packers have one of the league's youngest rosters and normally have some of the most difficult decisions on which players to release before the regular season. Below are the list of official releases according to the Green Bay Packers official website.

Graham Harrell, Kregg Lumpkin, Jason Cherry, Charles Dillon, Chastin West, Patrick Williams, Spencer Havner, Breno Giacomini, Evan Dietrich-Smith, Chris Campbell, Jarius Wynn, Ronald Talley, Anthony Toribio, Alex Joseph, Maurice Simpkins, Robert Francois, Cyril Obiozor, D.J. Clark, Anthony Levine, and Chris Bryan.

Allen Barbre and Will Blackmon are placed on injured reserved, putting the roster at 53. They'll probably receive injury settlements and not return.

The biggest surprise on this list is Spencer Havner. Spencer established himself as a solid tight end and an emergency linebacker option for the Packers. He was also a great weapon for the Packers red zone offense. The Packers still have a strong allotment of tight ends with Jermichael Finley, Andrew Quarless, Tom Crabree, and veteran Donald Lee.

Unless a trade occurs, the Packers enter their second consecutive season with three fullbacks. Already having 4 tight ends, this seems like a wasted roster spot and one could be released or traded once Al Harris and Atari Bigby are removed from PUP list this season. John Kuhn could serve as the Packers emergency tailback behind Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson.

Jarrett Bush still makes the roster. This seems more of a fact of the depleted DB depth and uncertainty of the young players. I believe Pat Lee and Jarrett Bush could be playing for a 6th and final CB spot these next few weeks until the returns of Atari Bigby and Al Harris.

Evan Dietrich-Smith may be a surprising cut, but they didn't really need him with Scott Wells and Jason Spitz.

Unlike past seasons where Ted Thompson made controversial cuts (Jon Ryan and Anthony Smith), there aren't any glaring cuts that should cripple Green Bay other than Spencer Havner's red zone and special teams presence. Even then, Jermichael Finley and Andrew Quarless should be an unstoppable 2TE red zone package, and Tom Crabtree gives them a tight end with great blocking potential

Havner surprised me too, but the rest of the roster is about what I would expect. Hope Harris and Bigby make it back when they're eligible to return.
