Kids Earn Rewards for Reading Over the Summer

Carly Hart
Do you want to sign your child up for a summer reading program, but not sure what is out there? Participating in one or more summer reading programs can be a rewarding experience for children in more ways than just building reading skills and literacy. The summer reading programs listed below offer books, a t-shirt and cash as rewards. Links to printable forms are provided below with program synopsis.

Barnes and Noble's Passport to Summer Reading

Parents can download Barnes and Noble's Passport to Summer Reading where kids (grades 1-6) can log the books that they read over the summer. Once they have logged eight books, they are entitled to a reward, which is one free age appropriate paper back title from a list of rewards. The downloadable Passport is in both English and Spanish and includes the list of reward books.

Program Dates: May 5, 2010 - September 7, 2010
Reward: 1 free book per child, must read 8 books

The HEBuddy T-shirts are nice. I have participated in this program for several years and the kids love getting t-shirts in the mail.

Summer reading programs are wonderful opportunities for kids to explore books they might not have the time to read during the school year. Great article!
