2010 Movie Review: Sherlock Holmes Starring Robert Downey Jr. Is Magnificent

Phillip W. Chambley
Some fans have called this "incredible film" the modern day 21st century Sherlock Holmes! The original story writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle would honestly be proud of this movie, especially if he was still alive today most likely text-messaging his agent for more money and film rights similar to Stephen King!

Famous Hollywood sexy actors Robert Downey Jr. (Sherlock Holmes) and Jude Law (Dr. John Watson) surprisingly work-well together as a pair of detectives trying too and eventually solve the crime of Lord Blackwood (Mark Strong).

Whom is a ritual killer and the leader of a occult-dabbling secret society, using somewhat mystical and "magical" powers that Holmes throughout the film knew was "wrong?"

Sherlock Holmes power of deduction? "It's elementary my dear Watson!" Means that there is NO magic? In other words? "What TOOLS or MATERIALS did the culprit use to commit such a vicious crime(s)?" as the story continues in history.

Downey (Sherlock Holmes) seems to be one-step away from the criminal and finding out how this expert has master-minded the horrible "ritual killings" taking place during the cold and fogy winter of 1891 London, England.

Ironically? This film simply called "Sherlock Homes" released in USA theaters on Christmas day December 25, 2009 seems to be a mixture of the television series called "Monk" and the hit film (2004) called "National Treasure" because of the way (my opinion) the director Guy Ritchie and producer Joel Silver have beautifully portrayed the "mystery behind Sherlock Holmes and his life!".

Sherlock Holmes has finally fell in love, after all these years, during this film with the beautiful Irene Adler (Rachel McAdams), one of his counter-parts and sometimes competitor that has caused him some problems over the years? "She honestly thinks she is smarter than Holmes?"

Although, his love for her does seem to cloud his judgment at times during the film, he always seems to re-emerge professionally from his "sexual attraction" to this beautiful woman.

One of the greatest parts of this movie is? "The violence is portrayed in a modern stop-action motion view?" Which means that the film editor has jumped certain frames of film, sometimes in slow-motion or even fast motion to create a certain modern day 21st century FX or effect

And a somewhat mild blue filter filming. Downey shows enormous excellent slow and fast physical body parts during these particular martial arts and violent scenes.

It was obivious that Robert Downey Jr. had thoroughly trained physically for these parts, (also in the 2008 film Iron Man) giving movie viewers something else to watch, especially females.

Jude Law, also known as the sexiest man alive in "Peoples Magazine in 2004" was just sexy as ever in this unforgettable and truly remarkable 2009 film.

Hopefully? This film will continue with a sequel(s). Giving the genre series book "Sherlock Holmes" mystery/crime/murders in London and lifetime movie viewers of Basil Rathbone, whom starred as the original Sherlock Holmes, alongside Nigel Bruce as Dr Watson, in fourteen films, black and white (two for 20th Century Fox and a dozen for Universal Pictures) from 1939-1946, as well as a number of radio plays. A NEW start in film history.

This film or movie has been rated by the "so-called boring and un-lovable film critics" as being a B-. Yahoo.com and other Internet film viewers have an average rating of B+. My personal opinion of this film is "Go see it!" in the theaters nowadays or rent it when it comes out on DVD, most likely in the year of 2010.
