2010 MTV Video Music Awards: The Nominees- Plus Can Kanye West Redeem Himself?

Victoria Leigh Miller
It's going to be a Gaga night next Sunday at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards- with a little Kanye mixed in.

With 13-count 'em 13- nominations under her garter belt, Lady Gaga will likely be all the buzz during MTV's 27th annual awards show next week. And even if for some unfathomable reason Gaga doesn't walk away with even one moonman, her name will be mentioned in nearly every major category. Meanwhile Kanye West's weekend Twitter rampage shows he hasn't fully recovered from last year's incident with singer Taylor Swift.

According to MTV.com, Lady Gaga's 13 nominations are a VMA record. Rapper Eminem, who follows Gaga with eight nominations, is reportedly peeved about the date of the show, which is the night before his stadium concerts with Jay-Z at Yankees Stadium. The VMA's will be held in Los Angeles.

Comedian Chelsea Handler will host the 2010 VMAs, while musical guests will include Linkin Park, Usher and Justin Bieber.

Can Kanye West Redeem Himself at this year's VMAs?

The return of the MTV Video Music Awards brings back memories of last year's Kanye West-Taylor Swift flap. West infamously interrupted Swift's "Best Female Video Award" winners speech by saying that his pal Beyonce deserved the win. Over the weekend, West tweeted an apology to Swift and offered to write a song for her.

On Twitter, West posted, "When I woke up from the crazy nightmare I looked in the mirror and said GROW UP KANYE ... I take the responsibility for my actions".

He also tweeted, "wrote a song for Taylor Swift that's so beautiful and I want her to have it. If she won't take it then I'll perform it for her".

And while West is expected to take the stage this year at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, don't expect it to be anything like last year.Over the weekend he tweeted, "With new found humility ... who am I to run on stage? I would never ever again in a million years do that. Sorry to let you down".

I smell an on-stage apology in the air.
