2010 MTV VMA Winner Predictions

Ayanna Guyhto
Every year it's always fun to try and figure out who will be the big winners at MTV's video music awards. We all have our favorites. But nonstop radio play, super saturation in the media, and the ultimate popularity contest seem to dictate MTV's big winning lineup. A few names have already been tossed around. You may have already figured it out for yourself. So let's just cut right to the chase. Here are MTV's major categories for the 2010 VMAs, and the artists who just might pull out all the stops. But then again, you never know - this fickle music world just might surprise you...

Best Collaboration: Jay-Z feat. Alicia Keys /"Empire State of Mind"

Sorry, Gaga. You and Bey Bey Beyoncé may have been nominated twice in this category. But this one belongs to Jigga. In a nutshell, there isn't one square inch of the world that has not been humming this tune.

Best Dance Music Video: Usher feat. will.i.am/ "OMG"

Enrique Iglesias employed the help of rapper Pitbull and the "Jersey Shore" kids to help pump up his song. Mega dance Mister, Akon even scored himself a nod. But that just may not be enough to stand up against Lady Gaga's "Bad Romance" and Usher's "OMG." Nonetheless, this time the Moon Man just might end up in Usher's hands; "OMG" was the dance ring tone of the summer.

Best Female Video: Katy Perry feat. Snoop Dogg/ "California Girls"

No offense to Bey, Gaga, Taylor and the "Tik Tok" Princess. But this year it's all about Katy Perry and her yummy candy-coated musical fantasy. "California Girls" was the buzzed about music video of the summer. Adding Snoop Dizzle to the mix just might have cemented this win in stone. (Oh yeah, and Katy's naked too...)

Best Hip-Hop Video: Drake, Kanye West, Eminem & Lil Wayne/ "Forever"

There are indeed some pretty heavy hitters in the hip-hop category-making it are extremely difficult to predict a winner. Jay-Z's "On to the Next One" still remains a nightclub anthem. B.o.B. and his "Airplanes" also present a valiant effort. With so many collaborations and duplicate nominees, it's a wonder that this category even exists at all. The best bet? Drake and his super crew of rappers.

Best Male Video: Drake/"Find Your Love"

Usher, Jason Derulo, Eminem, Drake, and B.o.B battle it out for the title of Best Male Video. But only one of these artists has flanked the media with his controversial "Find Your Love" music video. And that artist is Drake. Drake and his Jamaican mini movie caused a ruckus with its violent themes. But where that coveted VMA statue is concerned, the more hoopla the better...

Best New Artist: Nicki Minaj/ "Massive Attack"

Come on, you knew that the Bieber fever would have an effect somehow. In this case, it's with the insanely infectious tune "Baby." But Justin's lovable shtick may be no match for the powerhouse that is Nicki Minaj. The self-proclaimed hip-hop Barbie might just strut away with that Moon Man.

Best Pop Video: Ke$ha/ "Tik Tok"

If this song is still replaying in your head, then it should come as no surprise if grunge-pop princess Ke$ha takes the VMA for Best Pop Video. She's got some stiff competition (including Lady Gaga, Beyoncé, and B.o.B.) But who else do you know brushes their teeth with a bottle of Jack? Wait... Don't answer that.

Best Rock Video: Paramore/ "Ignorance"

Muse (the guys responsible for Twilight's "Supermassive Black Hole") put up a good fight with their giant teddy bears and gravelly appeal in "Uprising." But this year, newcomer Paramore's cramped quarters and big sound just might do the trick.

Video of the Year: Lady Gaga feat. Beyoncé/ "Telephone"

You didn't really think that the entire 2010 MTV VMA's a pass by without Lady Gaga winning one award did you? Her "Telephone" video created quite a stir - combining a mishmash of raw images (including some crafty product placement.) She is competing with herself in yet another video category. Alas, the force of Gaga may be just too much for Eminem, B.o.B. and Jared Leto (of 30 Seconds to Mars) to bear...
