NBA Draft Lottery 2010 Results and Analysis

StillWideAwake
Secaucus, NJ- Strike up the band. The 2010 NBA draft lottery has concluded. The winner of the first pick in the 2010 NBA draft is the Washington Wizards! After weeks of anticipation the Wizards had their ping pong ball drawn first, making them the envy of the other 13 teams who did not make the NBA playoffs. Each of those teams participated in this year's draft lottery in order to determine their selection order at the upcoming 2010 NBA Draft, which is held on June 24th at New York City's Madison Square Garden. The draft lottery determines the three teams that obtain the first three picks in the NBA draft. This year those teams are the Washington Wizards, Philadelphia 76ers, and New Jersey Nets. The remaining teams will select according to their records, with the team with the worst record selecting first. The Minnesota Timberwolves select at the number four spot, and the Sacramento Kings round out the top five. Each year NBA teams analyze, evaluate, and review every possible option presented in the incoming rookie class, hoping to find that franchise player to build around. While this year's draft offers a limited number of can't-miss prospects, there are five who stand out. They are:

1. Kentucky Point Guard John Wall
The consensus number one pick of the NBA draft. Wall is a super athletic and quick point guard with good size at 6'4. Wall is capable of scoring, but has a true point guard mentality. Has the potential to be an outstanding pro. He should make an immediate impact in the NBA. Who will draft John Wall: Expect the Washington Wizards to select Wall with the first pick of the draft, pairing him with Gilbert Arenas in the Wizards back court. Wall is too explosive and talented to pass over.

2. Ohio State Shooting Guard Evan Turner
Turner is a big (6'7) combination guard with excellent offensive skills and ball-handling ability. Good court vision with a strong pull-up jumper. Turner has solid length and plays with a high level of intensity. He can contribute early as a pro, especially on the offensive end of the court. Who will draft Evan Turner: Expect Turner to be drafted with the 2nd overall pick by the Philadelphia 76ers. He will contribute immediately for the Sixers helping to solidify their backcourt by adding another scoring option .

3. Georgia Tech Forward Derrick Favors
Favors has explosive athletic ability with a 9'1 standing wingspan. Favors is a tremendous leaper who finishes strong at the rim. Plays well in traffic. He is a solid defensive with lots of potential at the next level. Who will draft Derrick Favors: Expect Favors to become the 3rd pick in the draft, selected by the New Jersey Nets. He fits in well with the rebuilding Nets and will add athleticism to their young frontcourt.

4. Syracuse Forward Wesley Johnson
At 6'7, Johnson has tremendous leaping ability and gets nice elevation on his jump shot. He has
a strong mid-range game, and excels in shooting off the dribble. Johnson has a quick first step
that creates separation between him and the defender. He has loads of pro potential. Who will draft Wesley Johnson: I believe that Johnson will go to the Minnesota Timberwolves as the 4th pick in the draft, giving the T'Wolves their small forward of the future.

5. Kentucky Forward/Center DeMarcus Cousins
The 6'11 280 pound Cousins was physically a man among boys in college. Has great hands and soft touch, to compliment his decent athletic ability and great size. He is able to finish easily around the rim, and get off his shot from various angles. Cousins is already physically ready for the NBA. Who will draft DeMarcus Cousins: I see the Kings using the 5th overall pick to select the bruising Cousins. The Kings need a center, so Cousins will fit in nicely and should make an immediate impact on the team,

Between now and the NBA Draft in June, expect the staff and front offices of every team involved to vigorously study film, interview players, and provide multiple work-outs in order to narrow down their choices. The suspense will continue to mount until the very last moment, as these talented young players will ultimately find out which team they will play for at the beginning of their NBA careers.

The remaining teams will draft in the following order: 6. Golden State Warriors 7. Detroit Pistons
8. Los Angeles Clippers 9. Utah Jazz 10. Indiana Pacers 11. New Orleans Hornets 12. Memphis Grizzlies 13. Toronto Raptors 14. Houston Rockets
