2010 NBA Mock Draft - Top 5 Point Guard Prospects

Wall, Vasquez, Collins Lead 2010 NBA Draft Point Guards

Jackson Lewis
The top 5 point guards projected to declare for the 2010 NBA draft have a variety of skills. Some of the players like Kentucky Wildcat, John Wall, are expected to have an immediate impact, while others may take a few years of learning team systems and the league to have a big impact. Kansas's Sherron Collins, Michigan State Spartan, Kailin Lucas, and Maryland's Greivis Vasquez all came back for another year of college basketball this season. We may also see Tyshawn Taylor of Kansas declare for this year's draft if there are hints he'll go in the first round. This top 5 only includes one player per team so you will see two players with a lot of upside left out in Kentucky's "other" point guard, Eric Bledsoe who may go in the first round if he declares.

2010 NBA Mock Draft - Top 5 Point Guard Prospects

#1 2010 NBA Mock Draft Point Guard Prospect - John Wall

John Wall has been the projected #1 overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft since before he graduated high school. He has not disappointed Kentucky Wildcat fans this year with averaging 17.0 ppg, 6.4 apg, 3.8 rbg, 47.5% from the field, and even getting .5 blocks a game. He's got NBA height at 6'4", weighs somewhere in the neighborhood of 190 lbs. If he wasn't playing with 2-3 other 2010 NBA draft prospects, his numbers would be even more insane. Knocks on Wall have been his distance shooting (though its not been bad this year), and his turnover rate (blamed on the pace of play at Kentucky and being a Freshman by his coach). Look for Wall to go in the top three picks in the 2010 NBA lottery.

#2 2010 NBA Mock Draft Point Guard Prospect - Greivis Vasquez

Vasquez came back to Maryland for his senior year after being highly rated for the 2009 NBA draft. A lot of draft boards would have him as the #3 or #4 overall point guard. I list him second due to his NBA height at 6'6" and consistent production. In 2008-09 he averaged 17.5 ppg, 5.0 apg, 5.4 rbg, and shot over 50% from the field. Look for him to go in the first round of the 2010 NBA draft with the specific spot being based on team need.

#3 2010 NBA Mock Draft Point Guard Prospect - Scottie Reynolds

Other players seem to get more press than Reynolds, but he has significantly increased his production from last season at Villanova with averaging 19 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.5 apg, and is shooting 48.4% from the field. He has decent height at 6'2", 195 lbs, and should be drafted no lower than the early 2nd round in the 2010 NBA draft.

#4 2010 NBA Mock Draft Point Guard Prospect - Kailin Lucas

With Kailin Lucas out for injury, Michigan State doesn't win. He is the floor general for one of the best teams in the Big 10. The biggest knock against him is average height at 6'0", but he has increased his scoring numbers a bit this season with averaging 15.8 ppg, 2 rpg, and 3.9 apg. He's also improved his shooting/decision making with shooting a 47% clip from the floor which is almost an 8 % increase from last season.

#5 2010 NBA Mock Draft Point Guard Prospect - Sherron Collins

Sherron Collins came back for his senior year when he would have been drafted in the 2009 NBA draft. He's a bit short at 5'11" for the NBA, but is assessed to be similar to Ty Lawson in his skillsets and ability to perform at the next level. His scoring is down some this year with averaging 15.4 ppg, 2.1 rbg, and 4.3 apg, but you could argue that is because Kansas probably has the deepest talent in college basketball. Look for Collins to go in the late first round or early second round in the 2010 NBA draft.
