2010 NBA Mock Draft - Top 5 Power Forward Prospects

Patterson, Davis, Monroe Lead 2010 Power Forward Prospects

Jackson Lewis
There is some depth in the top 5 2010 NBA draft power forward position this year. Pattrick Patterson came back for his junior year after being projected to be a mid to late first round pick in the 2009 NBA draft. His scoring and rebounds per game are down a tad this season while he's playing alongside 2-3 other projected 2010 NBA draftable team mates at Kentucky in John Wall, DeMarcus Cousins, and Eric Bledsoe, but he has demonstrated the ability to shoot the 3 ball this season. Not too far behind Patterson in the power forward position are North Carolina's Ed Davis, Georgetown's Greg Monroe, and Lithuanian Donatas Motiejunas. Freshman Derrick Favors has also been impressive this year, but we don't know yet if he will declare for the 2010 or 2011 NBA draft. Teammates were left off of this list on purpose, so you will not see DeMarcus Cousins listed as power forward for my projections. I also left Tar Heel, John Henson off of the "Top 5" list since we don't know if he'll wait until 2011 or 2012 to go pro or not.

2010 NBA Mock Draft Top 5 Power Forward Prospects

#1 2010 NBA Mock Draft Power Forward Prospect - Patrick Patterson

Patrick Patterson came back to Kentucky to finish his degree in three years and have a shot at the 2010 NCAA Tournament championship. He is 6'9", 235 lbs, and is projected to be a 2010 NBA draft lottery pick. Patterson is averaging around 15-16 ppg, just under 9 rbg, and is one of the most accurate shooters from the field in the NCAA. He has demonstrated an outside shot this year as a point of emphasis over the last year to show the ability to play away from the basket when needed at the NBA level.

#2 2010 NBA Mock Draft Power Forward Prospect - Ed Davis

There were rumors that Ed Davis would go pro in the 2009 NBA draft. Although North Carolina has had a down year, Davis has been impressive with averaging 15.0 ppg, 9.5 rbg, and just under 3 blocks a game. If he is going to be drafted in the top half of the first round, look for Davis to go pro in the 2010 NBA draft.

#3 2010 NBA Mock Draft Power Forward Prospect - Greg Monroe

Greg Monroe is another sophomore who could have turned pro last year. He's got a better supporting cast this year at Georgetown and is averaging 15.2 ppg, 9.9 rpg, and 3.1 apg. Monroe has good size at 6'11" and 250 lbs. Depending on team needs, he could be a lottery pick in the 2010 NBA draft.

#4 2010 NBA Mock Draft Power Forward Prospect - Donatas Motiejunas

Donatas Motiejunas is the top European power forward prospect for the 2010 NBA draft. He is projected to be a lottery pick and is 7'0" tall and weighs 220 lbs. He may take a season or two to develop into a dominant force in the NBA, but his size may be hard for some teams to pass up in the draft.

#5 2010 NBA Mock Draft Power Forward Prospect - Derrick Favors

If you look on 5 different NBA mock draft boards, you will likely see Derrick Favors listed anywhere from #1 to #5 on the Power Forward listing. He's got decent height at 6'9" and 22 lbs. During his freshman season at Georgia Tech, he has averaged 12.9 ppg and 8.8 rpg so far with shooting over 60 % from the field. If he is projected to go in the lottery, look for Favors to go pro at the 2010 NBA draft.
