2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament Field Announced, Teams Seeded for Regionals

The 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament field was announced today. Among the teams in the 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament field are Arizona State, Texas, UCLA, and Florida. The hosts of the NCAA Baseball Regionals were announced on Sunday, so a few teams also got a bit of a head start on knowing whether they would be in the 2010 Tournament or not. The rest of the 64-team field had to wait until Monday, May 31st to find out if they would be playing in the 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament. With the announcement that they are in the tournament also comes the seeding that determines which teams will be playing in which Regional games.

The 64 teams in the 2010 NCAA Baseball Tournament field are all broken down into groups of four, with those four teams playing in a Regional series to determine who moves on to the Super Regionals. Each group of four plays a double-elimination tournament, with the winner advancing to the field of 16 teams that play for the Super Regionals. Each Super Regional will be a two-team best-of-three series, with one team from each Super Regional making it into the 2010 College Baseball World Series that begins on June 19th. The College Baseball World Series will have eight teams it in that also take part in another double elimination tournament to decide which school takes home the 2010 national championship of baseball.

Below is the list of regional host cities, and the four teams that will be playing there during the 2010 NCAA Baseball Regionals. The top eight seeds are split up into their own regional brackets, from which two teams each will advance for the 2010 College Baseball World Series.

One of the surprises in the field is that Florida State will be the No. 1 seeded team in the Norwich Regional, but they are going to be playing in the backyard of the University of Connecticut. That could make that an extremely tough regional, especially with Pac-10 Oregon also in the mix there. The Pac-10 Conference also became the conference with the one of the most teams in the 2010 NCAA field, with UCLA and Arizona State as two of the top eight national seeds. The SEC also had eight conference teams making it into the regionals, joining the Pac-10 and Atlantic Coast Conferences with the most teams.

The teams are listed below in the brackets that they will come out of, with the winner of the first set playing the winner of the second set in the Super Regionals. For instance, the winner of the Tempe Regional will play against the Fayetteville Regional winner in the Super Regionals to decide which of the two teams heads on to the 2010 College Baseball World Series.
