2010 NFL Draft - Day 3 Winners and Losers

The 2010 NFL Draft came to a close on Saturday when the Detroit Lions completed their last selection and picked the 2010 Mr. Irrelevant. While the first round picks may garner the most media attention, Super Bowl Championships are won by NFL teams finding those hidden gems.

Let us take a look at those NFL teams who either hurt or helped their chances to compete for the Lombardi trophy.

Winners

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles found a real gem in the form of linebacker Ricky Sapp. Though he fell in the draft because of some medical concerns, Sapp can be a solid pass rusher in the NFL and is the perfect fit for the Eagles blitzing style of defense.

Cincinnati Bengals

The team needed to add some depth on the defensive line and they found a potential game breaker with Gene Atkins. This defensive tackle out of Georgia is explosive off the snap and can bull rush the quarterback. This addition will help free up the linebackers to make a play on the ball.

Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings wanted to add some more aggressiveness to their defensive line and in the fourth round of the 2010 NFL draft, they found their man. Everson Griffin will fit in nicely in their defensive scheme and benefit playing opposite Jared Allen.

New York Jets

While the Jets earned the honor of being one of the losers from Day 1 of the 2010 NFL Draft, they picked up the pace in the later rounds. The selection of running back Joe McKnight is an upgrade over Leon Washington. His presence will give the Jets the speed they need in the backfield.

Oakland Raiders

The Raiders added tackle Bruce Campbell in the fourth round of the NFL Draft. While Campbell may not be as polished as other lineman, he has the tools and raw talent that can turn him into a Pro Bowl lineman in the NFL.

New England Patriots

While the Patriots missed the boat when they selected Florida linebacker Brandon Spikes, they made up for it by selecting his teammate tightend Aaron Hernandez in the fourth round. Hernandez's size and hands will help him create some problems for the opposing defensive coordinators in the NFL.

Losers

Chicago Bears

The Bears decided to spend a sixth round pick on quarterback Dan LeFevour. While the jury is out on whether LeFevour can be a quarterback in the NFL, the question is why did the Bears pick him when they spent the farm on Jay Cutler last year. They would have been better off using this draft pick on an area of need. One in particular is the wide receiver position, a spot they ignored completely in the 2010 NFL draft.

Washington Redskins

The Redskins landed on this section after they completed the trade of quarterback Jason Campbell to the Oakland Raiders. They are left with Todd Collins to back up Donovan McNabb. There were several quarterbacks available in the later rounds who could turn out to be solid starters in the NFL.
