2010 NFL Draft Preview: Brian Price

Young UCLA Star Could Be a Late First Round Pick

Mike Spain
Brian Price is the 6'1 303lb junior defensive tackle out of UCLA. Scout.com ranks the former Bruin as a five-star prospect, the fifth best defensive tackle, and the 39th best prospect in the 2010 NFL draft.

Brian Price's Strengths

1) According to Peter Shrager on Fox Sports Price is a "former Pac-10 Defensive Player of the Year."

2) Shrager reports Brian "turns just 21 in April, and has a world of upside."

3) Adam Maya of the OC Reporter reported Price "benched 34 reps (tied for third best among defensive lineman)" at the NFL Combine.

4) Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune likes Price's "upper-body strength" and his "ability to shed blocks and his explosiveness off the ball."

Brian Price's Weaknesses

1) Maya reported Brian "ran a slow 40 (5.13)" at the combine. Sam Farmer of the L.A. Times reported Price "didn't run the 40-yard dash" at the UCLA pro day.

2) NFL.com's Vic Carucci was quoted by Maya as stating Brian "gets manhandled by bigger and more powerful offensive linemen"

3) Youth is strength and a weakness, barely being 21 and NFL one would question hi maturity (though no incidents)

Brian Price will be drafted by the TampaBay Buccaneers in the second round

Yes the Indianapolis Colts might select Price in the first round; Brian probably falls to the second round. The combine has worked against him and his stock has fallen. However, Price will tempt lots of teams. Buffalo, Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Oakland, San Diego, Detroit, Carolina, and New Orleans could benefit from drafting Brian Price. The Bucs could select him early in the second round before many teams get a second chance on Brian Price. Price would be a reasonable pick with the 35th pick overall. If the Bucs go in a different direction someone will eagerly select Price.
