2010 NFL Draft Preview: Dez Bryant

JM Van Horn
During the first round of the 2010 NFL Draft, there is an obvious lack of offensive skilled players outside of the quarterback position. The one exception at the wide receiver position is Dez Bryant.

Even though Bryant only played in three games during the 2009 college football season, he still stands out as the top overall selection for the wide receiver class.

Dez Bryant's Strengths

When NFL teams are looking for elite wide receivers, the recent trend has been their size and Bryant fits the profile. His frame, 6'2" and 225lbs, allows him to easily shed off defenders.

On top of his size, Bryant possesses unique athletic ability that will make things a lot easier for his quarterback. Bryant remains fluid when he makes a move for the ball, no matter where it is thrown.

As an added bonus, Bryant has shown he is capable blocker down the field, something that many wide receivers do not grasp until later in their careers.

Dez Bryant's Weaknesses

While Bryant may have the size and hands to be a team's top receiver, there is some concern that he does not have enough speed to stretch the defenses.

Another concern with Bryant is that he may be a product of the system, specifically a spread offense. While in college, Bryant's route running was average at best, something that he will need to work on when he advances to the NFL.

Bryant has decided to hitch his horse to agent Eugene Parker, the same man who had Michael Crabtree holdout after the San Francisco 49ers selected him in the 2009 NFL Draft.

Dez Bryant will be drafted by the Washington Redskins

When it comes to where people think Dez Bryant will be selected during the 2010 NFL Draft, it is all over the board. After taking a long hard look at the teams and their needs, the Washington Redskins not only seem to be the perfect fit but it appears they are already making room for him.

Bryant has the ability to become a top playmaker in the NFL if he is able to maintain his composure off the field. Otherwise he could be one of the early busts from the 2010 NFL Draft.
