2010 NFL Draft Preview: Jahvid Best

JM Van Horn
Though the group of running back who entered the 2010 NFL draft may not be the strongest class in recent years, California's Jahvid Best will be one who makes a name for himself playing on Sundays.

Jahvid Best's Strengths

In college, Best showed he had the ability to be a game changer. He is able to use his speed and quickness through the hole and exploit weaknesses in the defense for big gains.

Best shows a natural ability to make the defender miss in open field and can prove to be an excellent threat in the return game.

Though he only had 62 career receptions in college, Best showed soft hands when he was on the receiving end. This will be useful for Best as he translates to the NFL.

Jahvid Best's Weaknesses

The primary reason Best is not being considered higher in the 2010 NFL draft is because his 5'10", 199lb frame does not match the prototypical size of running backs.

During his college days, Best did not show his was able to break tackles once the opposing defense made initial contact and gain the extra yard when needed.

The last area Best needs to work on is his blocking skills, especially when it comes to picking the blitz.

Jahvid Best will be drafted by the San Diego Chargers

The general consensus on the various NFL Mock Drafts around the web is that Best will be drafted somewhere towards the end of the first round or the middle of the second round.

After taking a look at the needs of the teams, the San Diego Chargers appear to be the best fit for Jahvid Best.

While Jahvid Best may not be able to fill the role of LaDainian Tomlinson, he will fill a role for the team as their go to back the same way Warrick Dunn did for the Falcons and Buccaneers.
