Just a few notes for those new to these pieces. This article does not contain every NFL MVP contender after week 7, just those who caught my attention in the past week(s). It's very likely the league's 2010 Most Valuable Player isn't mentioned below. Feel free to post your MVP picks below.
2010 NFL MVPs after week 7: WR Roddy White
Unless you were fortunate to grab White on your fantasy football team or you're a fan of the Atlanta Falcons, you may have missed the fact that he is leading the NFL in receptions (54), receiving yards (747) and receiving yards per game (106.7). He finished Sunday's game against the Bengals with eleven receptions, two for touchdowns, and 201 receiving yards. A couple of more monster games like that and White will be flirting with Jerry Rice's season record for receiving yards (1,848). The NFL is a quarterbacks-first league, but would Matt Ryan and the Falcons be at 5-2 without White? I can guarantee you the team doesn't want to find out.
2010 NFL MVPs after week 7: QB Tom Brady
Hey, look at that. The New England Patriots are once again near the very top of the NFL in late October. Brady was hardly spectacular against San Diego on Sunday, completing 19 of 32 pass attempts for 159 yards and one TD. He deserves plenty of credit for leading the Patriots, a team with a not-so-dependable defense, to a 5-1 record. Brady has completed over 66 percent of his passes in 2010, has eleven touchdowns and only four interceptions. Those stats are just a little more impressive when you consider the fact that Brady has essentially/literally been without Randy Moss in New England's previous four games.
2010 NFL MVPs after week 7: RB Ahmad Bradshaw
Don't look now but the speedy New York Giants back leads the NFL in rushing yards (708). Bradshaw has rushed for over 100 yards in three of New York's four previous games, and he's the major reason for the Giants having the fourth best rushing attack in the league. Just as with LaDainian Tomlinson, Bradshaw probably won't finish the season with sexy MVP-esque statistics. His ability to become a true feature running back is keeping Brandon Jacobs fresh for the second half of games (just ask the Dallas Cowboys) and creating opportunities for
2010 NFL MVPs after week 7 CB DeAngelo Hall
One game does not an MVP make, but you can't ignore Hall's four interception performance against Chicago. He currently leads the league in total picks with five, and has 57 tackles and a forced fumble. Can Hall save arguably the worst pass defense in the NFL (aside from Houston's)? Time will tell.
2010 NFL MVPs after week 7: QB Josh Freeman
Why not? He's only turned the ball over three times in 2010, he took the Bucs down the field on a game winning touchdown drive against the Rams (his fifth game winning drive of his young career) and Tampa Bay is 4-2. Freeman has shown poise and confidence in the first six games of the year, and with games against Arizona, Atlanta (team with a thus-far disappointing pass defense), Carolina and San Francisco ahead, he could have the Bucs in first place by Thanksgiving.
