This year, I believe the Oscars can be summed up in one word: Avatar. I am liking Avatar to bring home the globes. Here are my picks for three popular categories, as well as the competition.
Best Picture
The nominations in this category are Avatar, The Blind Side, District 9, An Education, The Hurt Locker, Inglorious Bastards, Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire, A Serious Man, Up, and Up In The Air.
My pick for this category is Avatar. This movie from James Cameron brings the level of greatness we have come to expect from the movie mogul. Once again, Cameron has delivered a movie to us that will bring in award after award.
Actor In Leading Role
Talented men such as George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Colin Firth and Jeremy Renner make up the nominees in this category.
My pick for this category is George Clooney for his work in "Up In The Air." This comedy is, in my opinion, one of his better characters and should bring home the trophy.
Actress In Leading Role
This category is made up of five strong individual women, all of whom gave powerful performances. But, we all know there can be only one winner, and I like Sandra Bullock for it. Sandra Bullock stars wonderfully in 'The Blind Side." Her performance as a suburban mom who takes in a homeless African-American teenager and encourages to play football. This drama is a great movie and Bullock's performance was truly Oscar-great.
The other contenders are Helen Mirren in 'The Last Station," Carey Mulligan in "An Education," Gabourey Sidibe in "Precious: Based on the Novel 'Push' by Sapphire," and Meryl Streep in "Julie And Julia."
So, there you have it. My pick for the three top awards to be presented in the Oscars Ceremony Sunday night.
A night at the Oscars is always a fun and exciting time for both the celebrities attending and the fans at home watching. Seeing a great being honored for his or her work is always a great accomplishment. I know that I will be glued to my television set Sunday night to watch the Oscars live on ABC.
