2010 Oscar Winner Predictions

Dani D.
The nominees have been announced and now it is time for predictions. I have been following the Oscars since 2006, when I was writing for a college publication during my senior year studying journalism and I found that I am pretty good at guessing the winners of Oscars. Following the trends of the Academy, the buzz around the movies and the actors of the films it is easy to guess who will win an Oscar. Although I haven't seen most of these films I don't think I would be able to properly guess after seeing them, I would simply want the actor or actress to win in whichever film was my favorite, these predictions of mine are based on what I watch and hear in entertainment networks, televising shows, read in reviews and see as trends with the Academy, then I theorize who has a chance at winning. With that being said;

For Best Actor in a leading role the prediction goes to:
Jeff Bridges in "Crazy Heart" (Fox Searchlight)
Bridges won at the Golden Globes and the Screen Actors Guild Awards so it looks like he is a sure in for the Oscar. I would have guess George Clooney, for "Inglorious Basterds," but he is nominated for his role in "Up in the Air" and I don't think he would win for that role. My wild card in this category is Jeremy Renner in "The Hurt Locker". Although it looks like Bridges will win.

The same idea can be applied to Best Actor in a supporting role:
Christoph Waltz in "Inglorious Basterds" (The Weinstein Company)
Waltz also won at the Golden Globes and SAG Awards, but even if someone didn't see those programs or read about the show it is safe to guess anything "Inglorious Basterds." It would be an educated guess. The other would be Matt Damon for his roles in "Invictus."

Hollywood loves it's veterans so it is reasonable to believe that Helen Mirren or Meryl Streep could win, but in this I would have to say the the prediction for Best actress in a leading is: Sandra Bullock in "The Blind Side" (Warner Bros.). Aside from winning a Golden Globe and SAG, this role is different from the "Speed" and "Miss Congeniality" star. Although she has done serious roles in "Murder by Numbers" and "Premonition" it looks like "The Blind Side" will make her official. It would be wonderful if Gabroury Sidibe won for her lead role in "Precious" (Lionsgate), but unfortunately for this young lady the attention has gone to her co-star.

Which brings me to the prediction for best actress in a supporting role:
The prediction goes to Mo'nique who has been causing a lot of buzz surrounding this film. If Mo'nique wins the Oscar then it will truly be her year. She has already won a Golden Globe and SAG award, but I think that she will win for what was said above about Sandra Bullock. The Academy seems to like it when actors take a role that is far from their norm and make it seem like the role they have been playing forever. Mo'nique transformed for this role so she could win.

The biggest award of the night is for Best Motion Picture in which for the first time the academy has ten films in this category. My prediction goes to:
Its a toss up between "Avatar" (20th Century Fox) and "Inglorious Basterds." Both films were big hits, but "Avatar" has received some criticism recently. On my list I highlighted "Inglorious Basterds", but if it goes to "Avatar" I won't be surprised.

Other predictions:
Prediction for Best Animated film:
I think "Fantastic Mr. Fox will win. The other guess would be "Up" which I actually watched and although it was a great film I still don't understand what all the hoop-la was about.

And for Directing:
"Inglorious Basterds"

Although I am pretty good at guessing who will win for other categories like sound mixing, sound editing and cinematography I won't go that far, but I have highlighted the movies I thing will win and will be watching the 82nd Academy Awards, Sunday, March 7 at 8p.mEST/5p.m P on ABC and see if my predictions are correct. Go to:http://oscar.go.com/nominations/nominees, print out a copy of the nominee list and highlight your predictions and then watch to see if you were right.

your predictions are utterly uninformed with factual errors and a rehash of many articles on oscar predictions.

Um, are you aware that Brad Pitt and George Clooney are two different people?
Because I'm pretty sure they are. Assuming this is true, Clooney does not appear in "Inglourious Basterds".

Good Luck with your predictions. I got them all right the year Unforgiven was up for an Oscar for so many aspects. I've done decently since, but never been able to get them all after that.

You should enter some of the Oscar prediction contests. I think I won like 66 dvds and an entertainment system that year.

    Sandra Bullock deserves to win.
