2010 Oscars Worst Dressed and Academy Award Fashion Flubs

Meg G.
Various stars showed up on the red carpet, arriving at the Oscars hoping to win...and hoping to avoid the worst dressed list. The red carpet is a tough place to be, and landing yourself on that horrid "worst dressed" list will ensure that photos of your less-than-fashionworthy moments will be plastered on episodes of fashion specials on E! for the rest of the year...or possibly the decade.

So who made the list this year? Let's take a look at five different stars that made various critic's lists and discuss their overall Oscar red carpet looks.

Charlize Theron

Charlize Theron made the worst dressed list on USA Today. She wore a Christian Dior Haute Couture gown in a lovely lilac color...except that she had two roses on her bosoms. The look was a little...over the top, and reminded many of the days where Madonna would parade around with her bra over her shirt. Without the roses - or maybe even placing the roses around the waistline of the dress - the overall look would have been great.

Carey Mulligan

Some think that Carey Mulligan's Academy Award red carpet look was decent, but some also find her Prada ensemble a little disturbing. Why? She's got all sorts of charms sewn on the front of the gown, in a haphazard pattern. It almost looks like a group of bedazzle-happy kindergardners went to town on her dress. Without the funky charms, the gown would be exquisite.

Miley Cyrus

Miley is absolutely gorgeous, and if the top half of her dress would have matched the bottom half she would have made the best dressed list. However, it appears as if Miley was putting on a corset to wear underneath her ensemble, put a skirt on, and forgot to put the top on before leaving the house. The satin material is too tight and isn't very forgiving. She almost looks stuffed in her ensemble.

Zoe Saldona

Okay. If Zoe would have taken a pair of scissors and cut her dress off at the knee level and gotten rid of any residue of fluff, she would have had a beautiful gown. However, the tie-died fluffy bottom of the mermaid cut gown she wore just didn't do it for the fashion critics. Yeah, the Na'vi in Avatar are criticized as looking like blue hippies, but she didn't have to dress like a hippy at the Academy Awards.

Sarah Jessica Parker

SJP has a great physique for a woman of her age, and she needs to flaunt it. Her yellow Chanel was far too loose, and the color didn't do her complexion any justice. On the red carpet she described the dress she wore to her first Oscars, and based on her description she would have been better off dusting off that puppy instead of wearing the Chanel she chose.

Being a star isn't easy, and fashion critics are harsh. However, that's what stylists are for. Hopefully the ladies on this Worst Dressed list make some better decisions next time they arrive on the red carpet.
