2010 Perdue Recall: Perdue Farms and USDA Announce Chicken Nugget Recall

A press release on the Perdue Farms web site Tuesday announced a new recall of the company's pre-cooked Great Value brand chicken nuggets. The 2010 Perdue recall apparently only affects Great Value brand chicken nuggets with a "Best By" date of June 9, 2011.

Perdue Farms says the voluntary chicken nugget recall is in cooperation with the USDA, and comes after reports of small pieces of plastic embedded in the chicken. Perdue Farms says no illness or injury is known to have resulted from the ingestion of products affected in the new 2010 Perdue chicken nugget recall.

2010 Perdue Chicken Nugget Recall Announced Tuesday Over Plastic Bits 　

In the official press release put out by Perdue Farms Tuesday, the reason for the Great Value chicken nugget recall was further explained. "We determined the likely source was a small plastic ring that got into the raw material before the nuggets were formed," said Bruce Stewart-Brown, Perdue's Senior Vice President for Food Safety and Quality.

Consumers are advised by Perdue and the USDA to check any product labels of Great value chicken nuggets they may have purchased to determine if they may have recalled product. The 2010 Perdue recall includes Perdue Farms Great Value fully-cooked, frozen chicken nuggets with a code of "89008-A-0160". The official Perdue chicken nugget recall announcement says there is also a "establishment number" code that reads "P-33944" somewhere on the package.
