2010 Razzies: A Look at the Nominees

The 31st Annual Golden Raspberry Awards

Jason Cangialosi
Ah, the fruitful raspberry. The adoring expression of lips flapping disapproval or perhaps a full blow to the forearm for the flatulence of flattery. It's hard to believe the Razzie Awards have been acknowledging the worst of entertainment since 1980. Yet, the 31st Annual Golden Raspberry Awards are upon us in 2011; who will go down as the worst of 2010?

Worst Prequel, Remake, Rip-Off or Sequel
Hollywood churns out prequels, remakes, rip-offs and sequels by the bucket load, so this category could overflow. Yet, the Razzie will go to either , "Clash of the Titans", "The Last Airbender", "Sex & The City 2", "Twilight Saga: Eclipse" or its spoof "Vampires Suck."

Worst Screenplay
"The Last Airbender", "Sex & The City 2", "Twilight Sage: Eclipse" and "Vampires Suck" all follow suit in the writing department, but "Little Fockers" is also a nominee. Strangely, "Little Fockers" may have been not only the worst sequel, but the most unnecessary. At least it has a tolerable cast, which "Sex & The City 2" can't claim.

Worst Director
It's no easy job, but bad direction can really make a movie crumble. Jason Friedberg and Aaron Seltzer apparently suck as bad as the screenplay in "Vampires Suck." Michael Patrick King has wasted our time yet again with "Sex & The City 2." M. Night Shyamalan continues his downward spiral with "The Last Airbender." David Slade disappoints with "Twilight: Eclipse" and Sylvester Stallone reminds us how bad action movies can be with "The Expendables."

Worst Screen Couple/ Ensemble Cast
One thing the Oscars lack is a definitive public reasoning behind why actors are nominated. The Razzies come through with nominees like Josh Brolin's Face & Megan Foxes Accent in "Jonah Hex." Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler leave an all around distaste in "The Bounty Hunter." The entire casts of "The Last Airbender", "Sex & The City 2" and "Twilight: Eclipse" are nominated.

Worst Eye-Gouging Misuse of 3D
As the newest razzie category for 2010, its testament to a drastic need to re-imagine why filmmakers need more technology. "Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitty Galore" was barking up the wrong tree to begin with. "Clash of the Titans" was another victim of switching to 3D a third of the way through production. "The Last Airbender" just can't seem to get anything right. "Saw 3D" certainly emphasizes eye-gouging absurdity. Yet, the worst of them all in my opinion was the complete ridiculousness of "Nutcracker 3D."

Worst Supporting Actress
Nicola Peltz is an obvious hit with the slack "The Last Airbender" is taking. Cher ("Burlesque") and Liza Minnelli ("Sex & The City 2") are also easy targets. Barbra Streisand has some competition for "Little Fockers" as Jessica Alba takes the cake for "Fockers", "Machete" and "Valentine's Day."

Worst Supporting Actor
They are going to break Billy Ray Cyrus's achy-breaky heart for "The Spy Next Door." Dev Patel for guess who? "The Last Airbender." Yet his colleague Jackson Rathbone nabbed a nomination for "...Airbender" and "Twilight: Eclipse". Poor old Rob Schneider couldn't live up to the star-studded "Grown Ups." George Lopez really a bad year with "Marmaduke", "The Spy Next Door" and "Valentine's Day."

Worst Actress
Miley Cyrus could get a matching award with daddy for "The Last Song." It's not only Megan Fox's attempt at accents irking some in "Jonah Hex." Kristen Stewart really outdid her battling male counterparts in "Twilight: Eclipse." Jennifer Aniston may have tipped the scale to her co-star in "The Bounty Hunter", but also "The Switch." Yet, how do you sum up "Sex & The City 2"; lump all the girls again for a worst actress Razzie.

Worst Actor
How do you offend one of literature's classics? Ask Jack Black why he did "Gulliver's Travels." It just didn't seem fair to nominate Aniston without giving it to Gerard Butler in "The Bounty Hunter." Ashton Kutcher really thinks he knows something about the ways of love. Not according to the Razzies who saw his contributions to "Killers" and "Valentine's Day" more as the death of love. Taylor Lautner and Robert Pattinson couldn't leave well enough alone in "Twilight: Eclipse", getting nods for "Valentines Day" and "Remember Me" respectively.

Worst Picture
Just do the math here based on all other nominations: "The Bounty Hunter", "The Last Airbender", "Sex & The City 2", "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse" and "Vampires Suck." The Razzies are open voting to the public, but you've got to be compelled enough to pay the minimum $35 membership for it to count. While I have no argument in the selected nominees for 2010, the Razzie awards hardly account for a representative voice. 2009 winners were based on the votes of 650 people.

Amen on the Sex and the City 2 cast being intolerable. You were being kind.
