2010 SAG Awards Recap with a Mixed Bag of Wins

16th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards

Andrea Coventry
The 16h Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were held Saturday, January 23, 2010 in Hollywood, California. What makes the SAG Awards unique is that nominations and winners are decided by other actors - a sort of peer review, if you will. While a nod from the Academy is special, being accepted and applauded by one's own peers means so much more. Actors can also use the awards show as a way to network and meet their own favorites in the acting world.

The night was without a lot of frills, possibly somewhat subdued by the recent tragedy in Haiti. Many of these actors had participated in George Clooney's telethon the night before. Highlights of this year's show were Sandra Bullock presenting the Life Achievement Award to Betty White, who followed up with her usual wit in her acceptance speech. And as always, there was the somber "In Memoriam" segment, that always brings a tear or two to one's eye. Most touching in that segment was ending with a Patrick Swayze clip from Ghost where he is finally walking off to Heaven.

The following is a complete list of the presenters and awards in order. A full listing of nominations are included, with the winners highlighted in bold.
