2010, the Season the Minnesota Vikings Would Probably like to Forget

Shirley Norling
There is little doubt in anyone's mind that the Minnesota Vikings had a very disappointing season in 2010. It's probably a season that will go down in the record books as one to forget, rather then one to remember. I'm a Viking's fan and I feel for them. It seemed like no matter what they tried, didn't work.

So what happened to this team that was just one kick away from the Superbowl in 2009, we all ask? They were predicted to be Superbowl contenders in 2010, but instead they will have their first losing season since 2006 and only the second in the last 8 seasons. It's really anyone's guess as to why our beloved Minnesota Vikings had such a disappointing year.

The Minnesota Vikings seemed to get off on the wrong track right from the beginning. Some of the players didn't get to training camp on time. Brett Favre didn't show up at training camp until practically the end of it. Although he may have thought he could play well enough without being at training camp, it certainly didn't turn out that way. Some of the players were recovering from past season injuries and some had other medical issues preventing them from taking advantage of the entire training camp session.

Despite the training camp issues though, the Minnesota Vikings thought they got exactly what they needed to have a winning NFL season again in 2010 when they got the infamous Brett Favre to sign on for another season. Viking fans were ecstatic when Favre decided to give the Minnesota Vikings a second season of his great playing abilities.

The excitement turned sour quickly for Vikings fans when early on in the season the Vikings were starting to look like losers, instead of the predicted winners many thought they would be. The team's star players suffered a number of injuries, controversy seemed to be brewing within the team and things just weren't going right for the purple and gold.

What looked like a big break for the Minnesota Vikings with the signing on of Randy Moss only turned into more frustration for the team. Brad Childress dumped a somewhat defiant Randy Moss less then 4 weeks after he came to the Minnesota Vikings. On Nov. 22, 2010 Childress was fired as head coach of the Vikings after a devastating 31-3 home loss to Green Bay and Leslie Frazier succeeded him as interim coach.

The Vikings did win their first game with Leslie Frazier as coach, but then a Minnesota blizzard seemed to put a new curse on the Minnesota Vikings. On Dec.12, 2010 the Vikings game had to be pushed back a day because a 15 inch snowfall caused the roof of the Minneapolis Metrodome to collapse. The Vikings ended up having to go to Detroit to play that game and they lost, as we all know.

The next Vikings home game had to played outdoors at the University of Minnesota stadium because of the Metrodome's damaged roof, and they lost that game also.

The Minnesota Vikings just couldn't seem to get a break. A day after Christmas blizzard on the East Coast caused a two day postponement of the Vikings/Philadelphia game.

Whether it was the weather, player injuries, firing of the coach, team controversy or any number of other possibilities, 2010 is a season Minnesota would like to forget as far as the NFL football goes. 2011 is just around the corner and we all wish the Minnesota Vikings better luck in that upcoming season.

Nicely done, not a Favre fan by any means. I do feel that people don't function as well at his age, time to do other things.
