Tennessee, Florida, Georgia Lead Opening Round Favorites

The 2010 SEC Tournament is March 11th through March 14th in Nashville, Tennessee. The SEC has been led this season by the #2 ranked Kentucky Wildcats, Tennessee Volunteers, and Vanderbilt Commodores. Florida, Ole Miss, and Mississippi State enter the 2010 SEC Tournament on the bubble needing to get at least one win to have a better shot at an at-large bid for the 2010 NCAA basketball tournament. The following are opening round previews and predictions for the 2010 SEC Tournament.

LSU vs Tennessee
The LSU Tigers have had a rough go of it this season with only winning two SEC games and finishing the regular season 11-19. Tasmin Mitchell remains the team leader with a 17 ppg and 9.5 rpg average. They did play the Vols close only losing by four points, 59-55, so they do pose a danger to the Vols making it past the opening round of the Tournament. Tennessee on the other hand, comes in having won 5 of 6 and notching signature wins over Kentucky and Mississippi State to go with their earlier in the season upset of the Kansas Jayhawks. The Vols are led by Wayn Chism, 12.4 ppg, 6.8 rpg and guard Scottie Hopson, 13.5 ppg.

2010SEC Tournament Prediction: Tennessee is on a roll, and stays hot. Vols win by more than 10 points

South Carolina vs Alabama
South Carolina finished the season with an upset of ranked Vanderbilt, but they were disappointing overall finishing the regular season with a 6-10, 15-15 overall record. The Gamecocks are led by star guard, Devon Downey who finished regular season play averaging 22.6 ppg. South Carolina lost their previous matchup against Alabama, 79-70 on March 3rd, 2010. Alabama comes into the game on a two game winning streak and is led by guard guard Mikhail Torrance who is averaging 15.5 ppg, and 5.2 assists per game.

SEC Tournament Prediction: Alabama wins by less than 5 points

Georgia vs Arkansas

Arkansas won earlier in the season against the Georgia Bulldogs, 72-68. Courtney Fortson leads Arkansas at 18.1 ppg and 6 assists per game. Arkansas was leading the SEC West until going into a significant season ending slump dropping their last 5 games. Georgia has gone 2-4, but dropped several close games to finish out the regular season. They are led by forward Trey Thomkins at 17.7 ppg and 8.2rpg. Georgia has upset the Vols, Commodores, and Illinois this season despite their record.

2010 SEC Tournament Prediction: Arkansas continues to slump and Georgia wins 5 points.

Auburn vs Florida
The Tigers finished the regular season at 6-10, and 15-16 and lost the previous game against the Gators this season, 78-70. DeWane Reed leads Auburn scoring 16.1ppg and 4.3 apg. Florida hung with Kentucky this past Sunday after it looked like a blowout, but needs to get at least one win during the 2010 SEC Tournament to lock up an at-large NCAA Tournament berth. The Gators are led by Guard Kenny Boynton, 13.5 ppg, guard Erving Wakler 12.7 ppg,
