2010 Spring Fashion Trends: Ladies Skirt Styles

Lori Jill Shirley
Skirt styles for spring 2010 can best be summed up in three words: short, sexy and sassy. Fashion designers and retailers alike are showcasing flirty skirts in fun colors and daring prints for the spring season. Here is a style guide for women on the hottest skirt styles for spring 2010, how to accessorize them and places they can be purchased online.

Mini Skirts

Hemlines are on the rise again, and the hottest look for spring 2010 is the mini skirt. The classic skirt style which has been popular since the 1960s, has been given an update for 2010 with vibrant colors, wild funky prints, and unique fabrics. Popular mini skirt prints for this season are floral, houndstooth, and paisley. These prints are a great look for spring, and look best when worn with a solid colored tank top or fitted camisole. When wearing a mini skirt, its best if you stick with flats, flip-flops, or sandals. Flat shoes will balance out the sexiness of the short skirt and give your overall look a sense of modesty while still being sexy. High heels worn with a mini skirt is overdoing it. Keep your jewelry simple and for a finishing touch add an oversized blazer in black. A blazer is a stylish solution for the lukewarm spring weather. The popular website Modcloth has a wide variety of mini skirts for sale on their site ranging from the traditional cut to more cutting edge styles.

Tulip Skirts

This updated, unique twist on the classic mini skirt style is literally cut like a pretty spring tulip flower. This Modcloth favorite is a fantastic look for spring, and an ideal skirt choice for the fashion forward lady. When wearing a tulip skirt, the same rules for regular miniskirts apply (flat shoes, simple jewelry), and since this is a more cutting edge skirt, balance it out with a classic white blouse in cotton or eyelet lace. Popular colors for these style skirts are yellow, pink, baby blue, and lavender.

Lace Skirts

A personal favorite, frilly skirts made completely of lace are another hot skirt style for spring 2010. The great thing about lace skirts is that they can be accessorized to be worn either casually or dressy. For a sexy alternative to the jeans and t-shirt look, opt for a frilly lace skirt, a ribbed tank top, and a pair of flips flops. This is a fun look for a relaxing day at the park or shopping at the grocery store. To dress up a lace skirt for a fancy night on the town, go for a sequined top, fitted blazer, and a pair of strappy high heel sandals. Lace skirts can be found for sale at Forever 21's website or if you really want to be unique, go on ebay and bid on an authentic vintage petticoat from the 1950s. These frilly unmentionables from long ago double as trendy skirts magnificently.

Pencil Skirts

If you want to go for a more conservative look this spring, the classic yet sexy pencil skirt is a perfect choice. This is a great skirt for wearing to the office, or for a formal function, as they are fitted and come just below the knees, offering a perfect combo of classy and sexy. These retro favorites made popular by the AMC drama 'Mad Men' in the late 2000s are sticking around for awhile, and many retailers such as Macys and JC Penney have a beautiful line of pencil skirts in their spring 2010 collections. The indie clothing website Tulle also has some great pencil skirts for sale in vibrant colors with unique embellishments such as big bows and ruffles, giving an update on the classic style. Pretty chiffon blouses in solids or prints and button up tops look best with a pencil skirt, and since this is a more refined look, it would be wise to wear a pair of stockings or pantyhose with classic pumps.

After hibernating all winter, its time for your legs to spring forth, so make sure they are shaved and moisturized, and if you are wearing shoes that show off your toes, make sure they are painted.
