DC Tea Party Event Sponsored by Freedom Works Also Set for April 15

Tea Party Patriots will be holding events across Virginia on Tax Day, April 15, 2010 to protest taxation and government spending. According to the Wall Street Journal, more than 300 "tea parties" were held last April 15 across the U.S. to protest excessive government spending and taxation. This year is on pace to surpass the number of events held in 2009. According to Tea Party Patriots, there are 254 Tea Party events currently scheduled for Tax Day 2010.

Norfolk, Virginia Tea Party Event

Virginia Tea Partiers in the Norfolk area can attend a Hampton Roads Tea Party event on April 15 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Town Point Park in Norfolk. This Tax Day Tea Party protest is listed on the Hampton Roads Tea Party site. The Hampton Roads Tea Party may be gaining traction, as site data was available. According to site statistics, nearly twice as many visits have been recorded this month than last.

Richmond, Virginia Tax Day Protest

Richmond, Virginia is also another site that will offer a Tax Day protest, set to be held between 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Kanawha Plaza, 8th Street. Incomplete details are posted on the group's Web site about this event; however, they currently list a barbecue set for March 27, 2010 at Crystal Lake. Of note, James Quigley, a Libertarian, was invited to attend. He is seeking to unseat Bobby Scott (D) of Virginia's third district in this fall's election. Rep. Bobby Scott voted in favor of the contentious health care bill, leaving many to wonder if he will be able to retain his seat after the November 2010 elections.

Charles Payne from Fox Business is expected to speak on April 14 at an event held from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the downtown Richmond Marriott.

Harrisonburg/Staunton, Virginia Tea Party Event

The Shenandoah Valley will see two Tea Party events on April 15, 2010 which aim to feature speakers discussing taxes and the deficit, among other issues. These simultaneous events will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. at Gypsy Hill Park Bandstand in Staunton and Court House Square in Harrisonburg. Tea Party Patriots attending will hear discussion about big government and out of control spending. Event attendees are encouraged to bring a blank 1040 tax form to the protest.

Roanoke, Virginia April 15 Protest Event

A unique twist at this Tea Party event to be held on April 15 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Elmwood Park Amphitheater is that politicians are invited to attend, but not to speak at the event. This event will commemorate the Roanoke Tea Party's one-year anniversary.

Many of the above-named Tea Party Patriot groups listed above have Facebook pages to help spread the word via social media. Information about events, including links to social media pages, can be found at www.teapartypatriots.org/State/Virginia. These events, however, may be overshadowed by a Tea Party protest scheduled for Washington, D.C. That event, sponsored by Freedom Works, is an all day event and will have speakers beginning at 7:00 PM. Event attendees can expect to hear Andrew Breitbart and Tucker Carlson, among others, address the crowd.

Tea parties are going to continue on...not sure what they accomplish, though.

Americans wouldn't be so up in arms about taxes if we actually got something from it...inexpensive health care, cheaper college tuition, well funded Social Security. But is seems like the middle class is just spinning its wheels while everyone else gets a handout or corporate tax break.
